What are 5 differences between MHC I and MHC II? 8)

MHC-I
a-found on all nucleated cells.
b-three gene loci(HLA A,B,C)
c-antigens are identified by HLAantibodies
c-present ag to CD8+ cells

MHC-II
a- found on immunologic effectors cellls(macrophages.B cells, activated epis)
b-three gene loci(HLA DP,DQ,DR)
c-antigens are identified by cellular reactions
c-present ag to CD+cells

Right, grin but there is more....

How is each bound to antigen and presented on the cell surface? Where is the antigen bound?

Note that the MHC I is found on platelets. Also, both have codominate expression...i.e. your cells express HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-C inherited from both your mom and dad.

Which one is down regulated in HIV? How?

Which one has gene loci that are associated with Type I Diabetes? Hemochromatosis?

you are right. i forgot about their chemical coposition.if u could add that
D.M is assoiated with MHCII.

  #5

in addition to above,
MHC-1 bind with endogenous peptides
has beta-2 microglobulin
no invariant chain
is down regulated by HIV (nef)
MHC-2 bind with processed exogenous peptides
no beta 2 microglobilin
has invariant chain
also asso with DM

Nicely done Jayesh grin

Hemochromatosis is assoc. with HLA-A

Specifically type I DM is HLA-DQ -DR3 and -DR4

Nice

hey nice discussion..what MHC DR-2,DR-3 ASSOCIATED WITH?

  #8

DR2 for multiple sclerosis and DR3 for type I diabetis

  #9

Rh. arthritis HLA DR4
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis HLADR5
Celiac HLAB8

  #10

This is a nice discussion.I found all this info at one place .....in Kaplan's Immunology Notes! So, it means Kaplan's Notes are a good source for this relatively new subject ? I am asking this because i read different reviews about immunology!
Thanks

  #11

hemochromatosis..with HLA-A3
celiac disease..HLA-B8 and DR3

  #12

Your are right asmi....hemochromatosis is HLA-A3...i left off the "3"

Here is a list of the HLA's that I know of

-DR2 .....Multiple Sclerosis, Hay Fever, Goodpastures, Narcolepsy

-DR3......Type I DM (also -DQ & -DR) , SLE, Celiac Sprue (also -B8 & -DQ)

-DR4......Type I DM, Pemphigus Vulgaris, Temporal Artiritis, Lyme Disease
Rhematoid Arthritis

-DR5......Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Pernious Anemia, Hashimoto's

-DR7......Steroid Responsive Nephroitc Syndrome

-B27.......Ulcerative Colitis, Psoriasis, Ankylosing spondylitis,
Inflammatory bowel Ds, Reiter's syndrome

-A3.........Hemochromatosis

also MHC I is a ligand for KIR on NK cells
