Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hello friends,
I'd like to express my feelings to all IMGs from all over the world, specially from Arab countries...
I'm 2003 graduate from Egypt, I decided to take USMLE, and started to study 3 months ago, now I've finished 3 subjects (Physiology, Behavioral Science and Immunology), it seems to take much time with me, but with each subject (studied from Kaplan's) I read the whole book 2 times, watch lectures videos, reading FA and practice quiz from Qbook's blocks, all of that preparation is before turning to a new subject.
But all the time I hear very bad and negative comments, such as:
*USMLE is impossible now for Middle Eastern IMGs specially Arab countries like Egypt...Forget it my dear
*USMLE is very difficult, also you cannot take visa for travelling to take CS, many people is rejected everyday
*They don't give H-1B one or extend it...you must have GC or citizenship
*Match is impossible for IMGs, specially older ones like me
*Competition is a killing marathon
*Costs are unbelievable...it's for rich men
*And finally most of my fellows consider going into Australian AMC, they say: it's easier, shorter, competition is not that intensive, you can immigrate into Australia even without AMC, you can go to Areas of Need to start your job...
But, personally I prefer USMLE as I heard that Australia is not the place for flourishing and improving your medical career, they treat IMGs inferiorly to natives in everything like paying, residencies, teaching...
I don't know where to go,
my energy is going down, although I loved USMLE preparation and I'm enjoying every moment reading reviews or answering quiz and feel it challenging and interesting experience, but my mind is exploding with negative ugly thoughts, confusion, and fear. I feel that I can't go on anymore. Hope is fading out. I feel warmth and intimacy here in the forum, so... Anyone had such negative thoughts before? Anyone can understand and feel me?
Can anyone help a poor IMG?

scorpio am egyptian

usmle is better than amc

in australia very hard to specialize and most probably will remain as gp

besides it is lengthy also

months to prepare for amc mcq and if u passed u would wait 1 year to have a place for amc clinical

if u passed u would be enlisted on a waiting list to do internship again under their supervision!!!!!

as regard ur friend who has been rejected is he egyptian - i hope no!!!!-

if he wat his scores?!

any way for visa there is another door

mph after gre

Thanks maoudoody for your advice, but that guy is Egyptian, are scores important in granting the visa?
In the same time, there are guys won the visa even without Step 1&2 scores or bank account statement, it's a matter of luck to a large extent.
I agree with you regarding AMC, Australia is somewhat racial in comparison with USA.
But I need to know more about the backdoor of GRE...please tell us what that means.

You r bothering yourself with a lot of things.... i guess first u should ask yourself, y will u leave the unversity hospital and go to the states, its not so good as u think, trust me,
but.. the second question is.. where is ur faith man, If God wants u there.. know u will be there, work hard ya man and go ahead, ask for your oarents blessings and go ahead.
Pray and ask God to show u th e way, America is not the land of dreams.

am hearing people r rejected visa nowadays if their scores below the mean

as regard mph it stands for master of public health

u must first pass a test called gre which is hold in the american university in cairo

then apply for mph in an american university in usa

they will send u student visa form - f1-

u can use it for cs and step 3

Thank you jodin for help...
Yes, I had training at a university hospital, but I didn't complete it because I left them for some serious problems regarding fanatism and such endemic problems in Egypt.
So, I decided to try USMLE, I enjoyed the materials and the whole process, but that disappointing matters about visa issues are bothering me and sometimes make me down...That's all!
USA may not be the land of dreams, but Egypt is the grave of the simplest dreams.

Thanks maoudoody for such helpful information...
What's meant by the scores mean?
So, can you describe the process of GRE and MPH and their costs and period they take? and the possibility of getting F-1 visa and its validity?

the score mean is the score where 50% of exam takers get

i heard some people r rejected when they fall below

gre is a test held in american uni in cairo not have details more than that but u can ask there but i think u shouldnot think of that cause u havenot been rejected already so y think so negative

as regard mph it is 2 years course .. tutition fees of each year is around 12000 dollars

yes very costly but if u really like usa and u rejected visa u can try it

the university when accept ur application will send u f1 visa form which will increase ur chances of visa approval

as regard validity sorry dont know

now it is fagr prayer may allah make ur dreams true and get the residency u want

by the way wat scores u friend had?

Thank you for your prayer dear maoudoody...
I don't know him personally, but I'll ask about his scores...

Hey Scorpio,

With regards to your first post:

Yes USMLE is hard, but keep in mind that any place worth going will be too.

USMLE is not impossible for arab IMG's, it's just hard. A label may say something about you but your credentials say a lot more.

Visa issues are undeniable, you must prove that you are willing to come back from the USA. I believe that if you have Step 1 and 2CK scores you will most probably get a Visa.

USMLE is costly, tests and travel to the USA will cost about 25,000 pounds given you pass them on your first trial which should already be your goal. Match fees depend on how many programs you are willing to apply to, it costs $790 to apply to 50 Internal Medicine programs.

There are programs that sponsor H-1 and J-1 visas but as you already know it is easier to get into a program if you are an American citizen or a GC holder.

It's not impossible for an old graduate to get a residency but some programs prefer fresh grads; those that have graduated less than 5 years ago.

You will be shot down by those that do not want to see you rise above them; especially by your fellow residents.
