Thanks Ivonne and njcjzy for dropping in... and always cheering me up. That's really appreciated!!... and yes, I needed some intelectual rest this weekend. Had many other stuff and social commitments, as well.

Today afternoon, I managed to watch gyn video lectures, and read pediatrics notes up to ETN.

Have a great week everyone!

hi beiwen, you are doing a great job with your study. On this long journey, what matters most is our determination and perserverence. Happy studying, friend!smiling face

  #35

Thanks, njcjzy, for your encouraging words. You're right... determination and perseverance!! ... and this is a loooong difficult journey, big time. Sometimes, the final goal of getting a residency position seems so far away, that you wonder if all this effort is really worthy. There're so many obstacles to go through, that it looks like something unattainable. It looks like you're crazy. But, again, you're so right: once you've started this journey, determination and perseverance are so much needed!!... I always say to myself: even the longest journey begins with one single step... and the aim cannot be reached otherwise than by going one step at a time.

Thanks, again and happy studying to you too!!!

you know BW ?...may be this is the 1st time I visit your land [ how could I do that !!rolling eyes]...,
but you can't imagine what those words did to me....
today I came home really frustrated...and all the way to home from work I was thinking.., what is the purpose from all that? what a long long road to walk...and how do I know that I'll get what I want at the end...may be I'll never reach the end at all....
I felt like if I'm falling into a big dark hall....,I kept thinking....
oh my god I have been preparing for 6 months...I feel like I forgot every word I studied..now I have only 2 months to go..I feel I can't do it...and my god not only this.., after this I still have step 1 and then not finished I have to get CS exam and the VISA troubles.., oh still what about the "TOIFEL" exam....ohhh my god..what a long road...
but you know BW?...when I read your words...my back got straight...my eyes are open...and I felt hope..I saw light...
it is a long road...yes...but what is the problem?!...the 1000 mile journey starts with one step....and time passes really quickly...and finally when I reach my dream goal, I'll not feel that long time passed...I'll just feel the success.
I think entering the race and starting the journey is much better than standing in place saying it is a very long road will take your life, and finally find that your life had passed while you are standing still ...but it will be too late...
I feel like I talked too much rolling eyes...sorry friends...but it is your words BW that brought my energy out....THANK YOUnodwink

Most of the time, the winners are those who have practiced the most, not the ones who are more smart. We can make this journey a successful one if we keep working hard.

Enjoy your study, you are doing great! smiling face

thanks, Ivonne. I'm glad you like it.

Friday: finally... done with pediatrics reading/video lectures watching. I don't think I'll remember all these syndromes, though:

-Beckwith-Wiedemann: macrosomia, accelerated osseous maturation, pancreas and kidneys organomegaly, hypoglycemia, etc, etc

-Pierre Robin: hypoplasia of the mandibular area

- Prune-Belly (Eagle-Barret synd): congenital absence of the anterior abdominal wall muscles!! OMG!! urinary anomalies, undescended testes... 95% males!!

- Ehlers-Danlos, all autosomal dominant, except type VI!!

- Waardenburg: lateral displacement of inner canthi, severe bilateral deafness, partial albinism (white forelock, pale blue eyes), the eyebrows flare medially, and may meet in the middle.. AD!

- Leopard syndrome: Lentigines, EKG abnormalities, Ocular hypertelorism, Pulmonic stenosis, Abnormal genitalia, Retarded growth, Deafness.

- Wernig-Hoffman disease: it's an "anterior horn cell disease", a DEGENERATIVE DISEASE OF MOTOR NEURONS = INFANTILE SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY. They have frog-leg position with hips abducted and knees flexed. no medical treatment... die before 2 y.o.

- Kugelberg-Wellander synd = a milder form of Werning-Hoffman.

- CHARCOT-MARIE-TOOTH = HEREDITARY MOTOR-SENSORY NEUROPATHY TYPE I!!! claw hands, storklike lower extremities!!! they have peroneal muscular atrophy... aut. dominant... gait disturbance, clumsiness, pes cavus, tremor, variable sensory loss

Thanks, Ivonne and Feyza. I'm glad this journal can be of any help. As for me, I found the journals on this forum very motivating. They're helping me to keep it up! big time!

Sat and Sun: pediatrics qbook: 65%, 71% and 62%. Not my best performance, at all! will reinforce concepts on this subject on a second reading and qbanks, of course...

Mon and Tue: began surgery notes first round reading. Let's see how it goes. I should be through with this subject first round reading + video lectures before Nov 15th...rolling eyes
