hi!
i m an img dr in us.i graduated in 2004.i then did my internship in my native country for 1 yr.then i cleared PLAB .but very soon i realized that uk is oversaturated with doctors.so then i was done with plab .
6 months back i made my mind that i ll go for USMLE.i started preparing for step 1 in jan 2007.my plan was to go thru kaplan notes for all subjects except patho for which i planned to go thru goljan.
i started quite fiercely but after a while i slowed down actually i stopped studying at all .in the mean while i diverted all my attention to my wedding preparations which was planned in july 07.
finally july came i got married .then came to us with my husband in july 07.within days after my arrival in us i was clear that i don t want to sit home doin nothing n waste my degree .so now i m here all geared up .
i recently came to this website n its been a month that i ve been reading all the posts .i think this is a great site for doctors who r in their struggling phase .its been one month since i ve started studying seriously .i ve done 1st read of physio kaplan notes .todays 26th of sep 07 n now i m starting biochemistry kaplan notes .i aim to finish my first read of all subjects in 2 months.i plan to take my step 1 in march 08 inshaallah.
actually i m planning to my match in 2009 inshaallah.

hi
hey i also got married and came to us in july
on first read
done with physio
now in biochem
will give step 1 in dec/mid-jan latest
if u want to apply for 2009 match u must get step1, step2ck and step2 cs done by august 2008
so plan accordingly
i am also applying for 2009 match
it os better to get done by july end
because then u will have results by august
applications start in sept 2007
and if we delay it , sum colleges stop accepting applications after say 100 / 100 application cap is reached
few of my friends got rejected this ye from colleges just because their cs got delayed

Hi skamran! As you had asked about Kaplan Center Prep, for me personally, it was what got me to where I am....cos I am an old grad, I was rusty and moreover I needed the discipline to get to the center and do the DVDs... and since it is *quite expensive* I felt the pinch and made the best use of time.

But it depends on what type of person you are; and also how strong your foundation is (in med school). If you are self motivated, have strong basics, are a recent grad and don't need the help of you know paying so much etc, you can manage without it. The new dvds.. I liked a lot...but the old ones are good enough as well. Of course Kaplan notes are the best!

So good luck! if you need more info, do pm me and I can help you smiling face

Oh I must add, I am yet to take the exam.. still plodding on.... grin

Hello Skamran and good luck in this journey.
I want to ask a question about PLAB.Would you be ready to answer qs for PLAB if you are well prepared for USMLE step 1 and 2?
In my case I want to set for PLAB as well.
Thank
