a man with albinism(AR condition) marries his niece.whats the probability that their child with have albinism?

1/4 ?

u r right asmi, this is the answer.but i couldnt figure it out,bec a/c to my calculations,it should be 1/8th bec the couple share 1/4th of their genetic material by virtue of being related.and as the man is homozygous recessive, and woman probably heterozygous, there's a 50%probability of their kid being albino.so i had calculated it to be 1/8.

anne,
Since it is AR disease , there will be 25 % probablity that the child will be affected .

  #5

is it important to consider that they are uncle and niece.

asma, how did u calculate 25%probability considering that the man is affected and so is homozygous recessive, and the woman is probably a heterozygous carrier.isnt it supposed to be 50% :?: :?

to be frank anne...i just thought it would be 25% since it is AR disease .I didn't looked about their relation ( neice)...i think they should have mentioned her as heterozygous,if not then consider it as homo....

May be iam wrong in here ....

The niece is likely to share 1/4 of her genes with her uncle and so 1/4 chances of being albino. If she is albino then 100% of the kids will be too and so the chances of children being albino is 1/4.However I'm not sure if this calculation incorporates the fact the girl is heterozygous???

Hello
consider it 2 situations case niece is AA or Aa since no word she has albin.
case XY aa plus XX AA 0/4 albino kids
case XY aa plus XX Aa 2/4 albinos.
Total 2/8 or 1/4.
