ccs cases cpontribute little to score ...dnt worry..people hav e passed with spoiling 7 ccs cases and passed...i did seven right and i failed ...it depends upon the mcqs mainly...goodluck with ur score..

Yeah I was just reading apparently CCS only contributes to 20% of your entire score. So relax, you probably did really well.

dr_me_myself dude, chillax...nobody flunks for screwing up ccs..nobody can screw up ccs worse than wat i did....if u flunk its cos u havent done ur mcqs well.... u will be in the average zone for ccs despite giving as pathetic performance as u can...that was my case....so plss dont worry...

Hi dr_me_myself, could you please direct me to where you have written your exam experience and what you would think would be the best/ optimum study method as I couldnt not find it. If you haven't written it already, would you mind sharing your experience with us so we too can benefit. Thanks a lot. Congratulations on a good score.

sure! i havent written it anywhere...i can definitely begin now! ( i should let u know that i m fresh from med school, with no experience as a physician). duration of prep: 4 months (first month on and off) ...bcos i had taken step 2 CK a while ago and had forgotten everything. if u have recently taken it, u'd need lesser time. study material:kaplan CK and UW (mainly) - both as learning tools ..though i would sugget that u revise CK books and assess urself with UW, and THEN learn the new material in the explanations. kaplan Qbook- as a testing tool AND THEN learning tool. time ur blocks bcos time management is very important in the test. Crush the boards - after completing each subject from CK, i read it, highlighting the points i didnt know. if u wish to review it, DONT leave it for the end. if u spend an hour in the early period of ur prep, it would be better and more 'high-yield' than reading the whole book in the end in one day. ( if u r inclined towards first aid, go for that. go for either first aid or crush if u wish to...DONT READ BOTH. it will only lead to more confusion! i tried doing that in the initial days of my prep...not only was it time consuming; the output was also a chaos!!) Kaplan DVD for ETHICS. (the other subjects, i dint have the time to review. so cant comment on that.) Alternately, u can read the ETHICS on the University of Washington website: http://depts.washington.edu/bioethx/topics/index.... the material here is very lengthy and descriptive. if u dont have time u can skip this- i dont think it will do any harm. the kaplan ethics video is good. short and sweet, and informative. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=609204835... Swanson's - only for geriatrics and sports medicine. CCS- UW ( UW ROCKS). if u have time, i would suggest u practice at least the trial case on the website http://www.studentconsult.com/usmle/ it will give u a good idea of how to use the software. PRACTICE THE CASES at least twice. i followed LISA's tips for the CCS. and practiced the short cuts of every case in the usmle orientation CD. u dont have to practice it on the software every time u revise. once u get the basic idea about using the software, u r fine. what i did, was- i first printed out the cases, and read them like a thoery note in order to get an idea of the approach to a pt. the SECOND time, i practiced it on the Software and noted the shortcuts on my printed cases. i also highlighted the work-ups/ tests that i forgot. and the last time that i revised, i tested myself- i read the history and wrote on a paper how i would approach the case. the approach to studying ccs is subjective...do whatever suits u best. but review them at least twice. UW should be enuf to give u a very good idea of managing any type of patient. so do those cases well. dont compromise with the quality of prep of the UW cases. u will definitely feel that u want to practice more cases from other sites, other books...but dont do that. believe me, if u have time, practice more mcqs. THE MAIN THING I FELT HELPED ME, WAS THE CK THEORY. whatever main books u've read for CK, revise them. cos most of the questions in stpe 3 are like the CK questions. there are a lot of ' next best step' and 'what is the diagnosis' questions. if u know ur CK well, u can pass... but make sure not to use a LOT OF books. stick to one for one subject, or else u will get confused. what else??? i guess that is it! assess urself with nbme. i did that 2 weeks before my test so that i 'd have the time to revise my weaker areas...i was sure that i would be able to add A LOT to my knowledge in the end, with all that anxiety..but it helped me psychologically to know that even if my nbme score sucked, i could improve myself!!! :P by the way, i scored 390 on nbme. i had read on this forum that CCS helps ADD to ur score. but the MAIN foundation of the score is ur MCQs. so dont ignore CCS, but also don't compromise on the MCQ prep. i think i have written a little too much!! i hope u r still awake :P Good luck ! and feel free to ask me if u have any other questions!
