Can someone explain how to think about the ratio of serum osmolarity to serum Na? This was in a table in the BRS Physiology book, in the renal section that compares ADH pathophysiologies and has a category for this ratio. For example, in primary polydipsia, you have increased ADH, and decreased ratio of serum osmol to serum Na vs. in diabetes insipidus, you have increased ratio of serum osmol to serum Na. Can you explain this? Thanks.
