Well, it's not my favorite thing to do in the world (to tell everyone I failed), but thats what happened... I don't know where I went wrong... I studied long and hard. I read Kaplan, I did the UW (but i did not finish ALL the questions) During the test I thought I was answering at least most of the questions well, and those I didn't know I made educated guesses between two answer choices, but I guess it was not enough. I'll be glad to answer any questions and pleased to recieve any kind advice. Yours, DrVirgo

Virgo, Sorry to hear that, but it was a big surprise to me. You studied very hard and prepared carefully but still did not make it. Analyze the reasons, your weak points and concentrate on them. Make notes when doing questions and understand important clinical crenarios. Do not give up Virgo, try again.

Hello my study buddies and e-friends. Thanks so much for all your support... You have no idea how much it means to me. This is the first time I am posting such a private and emotional thread... As some of you know I have been here a long time, but I just post questions, etc. I prefer not to give too much details about my exam, but I will say that i only failed by a couple points. I was very close, and got poor in 3 fields (with a * hitting the poor performance line). Similarly to a loss I am going through the stages of Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Grief, and hopefully soon Acceptance... Right now I'm on grief... I just have to build up the energy to pick myself back up and try again with full force (which I am trying to do right now). Last time i only finished half of UW and did the practice NBME on the forum, etc.... This time I will finish all the UW questions AND take the REAL NBME before i attempt to appear for the exam... I will only schedule my exam once EVERY area on NBME is above average to strong... Any other ideas would be highly appreciated... Also I'm a bit stressed because I have already started my ERAS application, and now I have to research programs who are willing to give interviews to applicants who are not YET ECFMG certified... I know it sounds impossible, but I personally know of a few friends who applied to programs and got interviews when they were either in the process of completing their steps OR not even graduated from med school yet, so it's just a matter of finding the RIGHT places to apply to, with a little bit of luck. Anyway, thanks again, and God bless. DrVirgo I am aiming to take CK again in a month if my practice NBME goes well... do you all think its possible.

Oh my Gosh... Yesterday night I was reading your successful CS experience and was so happy for you, but this your message just killed me... I am very, truly sorry for you, colleague... I hope I am not wrong if say that you have a decent knowledge to pass the exam with a score of 999/99... Whatever happened is not due to just knowledge, and you know that... I would suggest to start from NBME right away, to explore your weak areas... And than you master those and but also go over all other areas of medicine... I would also suggest to use another review book, something like StepUp to Medicine... It's a very good comprehensive reading, trust me and my advice... Man, do not loose confidence in yourself... You will be alright... YOU WILL...

Consider it a small set back and move on. Do analyse what went wrong. Ask people who did well and contemplate. I have a second attempt, awaiting the result of step one. I reached out and figured how much more I needed to do, to just pass. Do not shy away from seeking help. that is why this forum. you will be just fine. I have faith in god. i hope you do too.

Hi, Dr Virgo: Sorry to hear the news. Can you repeat UW again, at least 3 times? And maybe Kaplan videos as well. That is my experience from CK.

Hi, Jus try the strategy to study for step2 in this forum. Go thru all the steps. Take the NBME exams to check where you stand after every revision.

Thanks again everyone for your wonderful words of encouragement. It means the world to me to have such kind and understanding e-friends. I'll admit I'm not the smartest person, but I DO work HARD, very hard! And maybe that's why this was such a hard fall, (damn, it hurt), but I'm picking myself up again... I've learned in life that things like this are just small set backs, not the end of the world. I know in my heart I was born to practice medicine, because there is NOTHING else I can see myself doing. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the human body, and I am very passionate about helping people, so I have no other choice but to study, study, study so I can achieve my goal.

Thanks neuro. But you are wrong... I'm not THE most hard working here, but ONE of the most hard working ones here... I really admire and respect everyone who puts in the hard work and dedication it takes to pass these exams because it's not easy stuff. I'm also not a guy; I'm a gal. But everything else, you are right about!

Hi fidaa, I'm so sorry to hear about your fail on Step 1. If you need any help with that one let me know... Although it's been a while since I took it, I did manage to get a decent score. I know what you mean about the shock buddy! When I saw my score report, I thought that there must be some mistake, and this is NOT MY SCORE!!! They mixed it up with someone elses! Denial BIG TIME!!! haha... I guess I can joke about it now... If you have started your ERAS and signed up for the Match, go for it this year... I think you still have time... There ARE a few places out there that are VERY IMG friendly, and WILL even give you an interview when you are not ECFMG certified (provided that you will be by the time 08 intern year starts)... I will have to do a bit more research and ask around to people who applied and got interviews and positions to these type of programs and I'll post it in the Match Forum as soon as I know. Good luck on Step 1 fidaa!! If I can do it, you can surely do it!!!
