I know that 2 units of packed red blood cells are given for a hemoglobin below 8.. Fresh frozen plasma is basically a volume expander.. Is PRC-packed red cells, the same as packed cells. Dont know what SPD is?

Packed red blood cells - increase oxygen carrying capacity of blood in pts with low Hgb Fresh frozen plasma- contains clotting factors and plasma proteins. Is used to reverse coagulapathes. Cryopercipitate - rich in factor 8, fibrinogen, vWF, and factor 13. Used in pts w/hemophilia, fibrinogen deficieny, and von willbrands diseas. Although FFP can be used in these pts, cryo. contains higher levels of these factors in less volume, therefore very useful in volume sensitive individuals. platelet transfusion - not needed till platlet count <10k

Sorry I meant SDP. I think it is Single Donor Platelet, where around equivalent of 6 PRC's platelets are taken from a single donor. Donor is attached to the machine for 2-3 hours.
