Angel,

i dont know what the system at your school. We have to go to college student section. Find our ECFMG verification letter from the whole big bunches of documents. [If you find it] then give to office clerk with smiling face. REquest him to fill the whole form as well as verify the diploma and put the transcripts [we have to prepare and print our own transcripts.the clerk will get them signed by Dean] in envelope. Then he'll give us the envelope and we send it to ECFMG via couriour service.

One of my friends had the same problem. He didn't get score till he did the above procedure and sent the verification to ECFMG.

All the best for your scores..

hi deja_vu ,

obviously our school system is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch easier f rom ur system .. they do the whole procedure without involving us and i've never heard any problem with any of our collegues who took the exam..

i never knew about this verification letter until i called ecfmg .. i went to school to check and they told me they have just recieved it in the same week which was the 5th after the exam ! (((althouogh i gave the exam with a freind but she recieved the score without delay))))

they promised me to send it as soon as it get signed .. payed some extra money for a faster mail!

for some reason .. i believe now that the delay is 4 my best.. that's alot 4 ur contribitution.. it makes me happy that ppl like you are concerned as wellsmiling face wink

Medhavi I think doing the USMLE step 1 during medical school was the best decision i took; however, i was in a good standing and i was able to tolerate the time limitaion. I think deciding how much time you need depends on your background and capabilities. you should weight the benitifit versus the risk; the only limitaion in doing step 1 while you r in med school is the time strain - so you would best use the time avalaible in reading small summarized book not big robbins which you should have covered in med school.

Thank you ghostsurgeon. Well, your question is really hard to answer because it depends on you as the amount of study and questions differ from person to person. Plus, believe me USMLE is not about the quantity but the quality .Study smart and target your weak areas first and try to impove them by doing more questions and review but at the same time balance the time you give each subject according to its importance and % in real exam. like if your scoring worst in patho and behavioural sciences. Of course work on your PATHO first then when you start scoring better give some less time to behavoiural sciences. start early -NOW in your case. Target the area that you score worst in and try to improve them until you start getting a satisfactory score- >70 percentile in USMLE world is really good ! Do NBME before sometime of your exam to check if you have reached you goal before going to the exam as many other people recommended( personnally, i didn;'t do it) .

Best of luck brother

thanks very much angel smiling face i am doin UW and gettin about 80 % in an unused timed manner...but i really wonder the number of Qs needed to be answered correctly to get 99 because i heard that answerin 240 of 350 Qs correctly is enough for 99...ı couldnt believe that..the number came very low to me to get 99...i was thinking tha at least 320-330 of 350 Qs should ne answered correctly to get 99 from step1..and wpnderin one more thing..is the 3 digit score representing the number of correct Qs we did ?? thanks for your patience and kindly reply...

I think you are misunderstanding the grading and some vital info about the exam, I'm not expert in that topic but I'll try my best:

1- 50 of the questions are experiemental and are not graded

2- 99 is not a percentage nor a percentile . It is just a two digit score !

3- I don't think anybody know the way the questions are graded. What I know- corect me people if I'm wrong- that each question is graded differently and the points earned from each question answered right is precalculated and differ from one question to another and do not exactly to the no of questions answered although it is used by people to estimate the number of questions need to be answered right in orger to get a spicific score

4- 99 is anything more than around 235 -240 but if you think of it out of the 300 marked - then it means you should answer at least 78-80% of the exam right ! or an average of 40 question per 1 block of the exam

hope I answered your question. best of luck

Congrats on the amazing score Angel_doctor!

I was wondering in regards to pathology, is BRS enough? I don't have the best of pathology basics to build on so would BRS suffice for the exam or should I go for the Robbins textbook.

Thanks!

  #71

Thank you say what . I had a quite good basics so I went to BRS directly . If I were you, I would start reading BRS and for the topic that I fell 'm weak in I would open big robbins. big robbins takes time but if you think you need some more basics and details , then use it selectively ( i keep saying this word) > This may not be the best advice and you may think it may not suit you BUT this is what I would do. Time management and being focused goal directed I guess is the key.

You may even start with BRS, put some question marks here and there for thing you don't understand then later go back to robbins and find the answer. Whtaever you find useful but stay goal directed. Eventually it's the same as reading both, but it saves you a lot of time of reading things that you'r quite familial and fine with . Later in
the process, when you start doing question, you can know your deficit more and read selectively ti fit the gab. Hope everything turn out fine with you

Al the best
