increased serum alkaline phosphatase ,an enzyme associated with osteoblastic activity is one of the indices used to detect excess bone demineralization n remodelling.

but osteoblasts help in depositing bone ...then how can its activity cause demineralization?rolling eyes(don't know why i could not post in one long post..so had to post the qs in bits)

May be because of the fact that receptors for PTH are actually on the osteoblasts.
So, PTH activates receptors on osteoblats ,message sent from osteoblasts to osteoclats followe by bone resorption. There must be a communication between these cells and some considere them as fonctional unit.
Correct me if I am wrong

Its simple Osteoblasts whenever stimulated by any signal whether it be PTH or GnRH or GH or T3 they also induce production of Osteoclasts which have a 3 times greater bone resorption capability.

When bone is being formed the major factor for its growth and MODELING is stress and hormones. Stress modifies the shape of the bone, so as a rule for bone to be remodeled the osteoclasts first removed the bone and then osteoblast lay down the new bone. The ongoing process that alters the size and shape of bone by partial resorption of preformed bone tissue and simultaneous deposition of new bone is modeling and remodeling.
