untreated syphilis-how the tests-VDRL and FTA-ABS titer will evolue in time?

  #2

VDRL is sensitive & it will be positive in primaryand secondary but in tertiary onwards it will not as the titer decreases ( also with treatment)
FTA-ABS is mre specific and it is positive life time

  #3

are you sure?it;s not reversed sad

  #4

yep i think so ...pls correct me if wrong

  #5

i'm sorry-you are right.
thank you.

  #6

jayesh you are right. VDRL is more sesitive but less specific .FTA is most specific less senitive.

  #7

can VDRL be used to determine the response to treatment? does its titer decrease towards the later inflammation whatsoever or it's titer decreases only according to the treatment? I saw both sayings from diff sourses. Also, which one turn positive first after infection? I think it's FTA-ABS?

 VDRL titre decreases towards later in infection wiht or without treatment.
 yes, FTA-ABS turns positive early since its more specific .

  #9

if FTA-ABS turns positive early then we should say it's more sensitive as well as more specific. VDRL, on the othe hand, is less specific and less sensitive, but the good thing is can be used as an indicator for treatment?
