hello everyone.unfortunatly,i failed step 1 recently. i took it aug 31. reading this forum, i found the strength to retake it, and who knows, get a 99! id like to know though from people who who had a similar experience as mine, when would be the best time to retake it? a friend of mine who works as a residency coordinator said that programs usually look at the time interval between retakes or attempts. if the interval apparently is too long, it sorta discourages them to accept the applicant compared as to a shorter interval time with of course, a high score. any opinions?

I disagree. That may be just his/her program. My friend started her residency this July and her first attempt was in '98. She then got married had 2 kids and stayed at home. she retook them again and after several attempts finally cleared both 1 and 2. She is doing Int. Med. and has already had several offers from Cardiology dept. ( she has not even taken her step 3 yet)
