Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hello

I have a question
I've only just started studying for USMLE step1
I was wondering if each subject has the same numbers of questions
in the exam
There's

Anatomy
Physiology
Microbiology
Pathology
Genetics
Immunology
Pharmacology
Behav science
Biochemistry
Embrology
Histology
Neuroscience

I would like to know what percentage each subject has in the exam

I came to ask this question because I'm planning to
listen to Goljan pathology and I wanted to know whether
it would be worth it to spend the 5 days on the audio

(I was not planning to study pathology other than FA itself)
Is FA not enough?
(I've looked at the notes and haven't fould any slides..
Am I missing slide PDF? If I am could somebody tell the link
or send me the slides at jihyunrhee@gmail.com?)

I'm really a new beginner and I'm stuck..
It's so hard to start studying after all the free time...shaking head

ok so u want ranking 4 the most heavily tested subjects

1.physio & path=> invest high effort on these 2 subjects=> questions r sophisticated & detailed

2.pharma & micro

2. behsci & biochem

anatomy is the least tested ( however some ppl reported that their exam contained many q in anatom)

study patho from a review book Fa is NOT enough

hey i wish i had gotten some advice on this site before starting my studying
ur in the right place!

for micro-i highly recommend FA , i realized that too late, as almost all of bacteria, viruses, and ALL OF FUNGI and parasites were in hte FA.
everyone says clinical micro made simple is a good source, and i agree it dumbs it doewn for you, and has almost the same amount on info.
i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHly recommend, going into the middle of your kaplan micro book, and finding theie review pages. those are great for review and organizing everything into where it affects your body, and they have these charts, with how the bacteria are oganized and all the most relevant info.
that for me was a godsend. i just put all my info from my other resources onto that, and now i have only 3 pages to memorize for bacteira,

first and fore most, first aid is very very good cuz it has almost al of the high yield on each subject. path is weak, some feel.

i suggest as you do your reading from a source (ie kaplan books, or gol jan) , refer to ur first aid along side. it is a good idea, to familiarize yourself early on with the first aid, so eventually the times comes and you can jstu grab that one book and memorize it well.

i have personally went alongside each chapter, first aid and kaplan and checked fi all the info was in my first aid. and i have to look hard, cuz if its in my kaplan biochem it might not be in the biochem first aid section, it could be in the micro section for all i know. anyways, everything that was missing i added in. cuz you have to realiez that hte first aid people, dont know every single student's learning style. they put down a few key words to jog the memory. now its good if you have memorized the crap out of your other resources. i just put it all into one source, so ites easier on my lil brain -lol

for goljan look around the site, get its audio , and its lecture notes. il try and upload mine if i can, last time i tried my computer froze!

if you have alot of time, i suggest doing each subject in kaplan first. then eventually studying by system .

so cardiovascular- reread your physio portion on it in your physio book, reread the embryo part, and then go to goljan for hte path, and kaplan for your pharm.

etc.

because you haev to realize the test is not going to tell you what subject they are talking about, they will be talking about some part of the body or another. its abig connecton to jump from visualizing by a subject to now a system. get comfy iwth that head on.

goljan is a MUST MUST. everyone thinks so. and do very well in their studies. first aid is very poor in pathology!

i would recommend studying biochem first, and then physio. biochem is very important alot of clinicals can be derived from it, as well as it carries imp ptahways and regulations in your body. it will always tie in with other subjects.
then do physiology. which is very high yield, and will set the ground for, understanding micro and why the bacteria invade that body part, , what drugs are used to regulate our physio, and finally what problems disrupt our physio.

i would do anatomy next but just remember not to stress so much on it. just know your first aid well no matter waht on anatomy, and focus more so on neuro- as well as flip through high yield series for those great radiology pictures.

immuno everyone says fa is enuf, plus with goljan's immuno audio ur mor ethen ready id say.

i hope i helped, i am actually taking mine in a month, so i am not an expert, but i know the trials of studying and i am telling you what worked for me.

dont worry about spending 11 day son anatomy. it all depends on how much time you have to prepare. if you have about 6 months
2 weeks on a subject is ideal. that will finish u in two months, then 2 months left to reread, and the last month is read it systemically , the very last monnth is only questoins!

good lucknod

Oh...AND
I've started doing the Kaplan + FA together study mode^^
It's good although it takes a while to find things in the FA
I am now going to listen to Immunology from Kaplan
I'm so bad at Immuno..I have no basics
Do you think it's worthit to listen to Kaplan Immuno or shall I just
study the things in the FA?
(FA is like a symbol..I cannot get what they are talking about by itself)
(which leads me to thinking that It'll be worthit to listen to Kaplan...)
(BUT STILL...)

I need tips!! You are like USMLE seniors to MOI^^

Thanks sureshrx!

When you say review you mean the book right??^^;;
Sorry~
I tried to listen to the internet source and it's really not matching the book...
so I gave up..
I don't know what I'm gonna do about Immuno,...T.T
The one I'm not good..at..
I need some advice

I can tell u this and I have taken the exam twice..don't look for short cuts. FA alone is not going to fetch you a good score. So when ppl tell u FA so good enough.Yeah it is good enough if you are a 3rd year medical student who has spent the last 2 years reading a text book not revision books.

If you are an old graduate which translates to graduated more than a year ago I would highly recommend you go through a good base and make Goljan and FA your revision buddies and there is no denying they r the best sources right now.

I had a good mix of questions. I had atleast 7-8 histo questions, 4 embryo questions, around 10 brain slides, 4-5 angiograms and 10-15 gross anatomy questions. I disagree that anat is not as tested.

Don't look for short cuts and not review any subject less. they have an uncanny way of including everything that they think is high yield.

Having said all that, Path, physio Pharm are the most heavily tested. smiling face

Good luck.
