Hi everyone! I am so sad that I learned of this site only now--it seems great! Thank you to all previous posters. I have been relying on studentdo**** and some are not really very friendly towards IMGs. I applied to 25 neuro and 25 prelims. I dont really know how IMG friendly the programs I applied to were, but I followed the tiers in SDN and I applied widely. Unfortunately, I have zero interviews. I got one offer, which was withdrawn 2 hours after. Ouch. So there. My stats are ok 2006 grad, ecfmg certified/99/95/pass but NO RESEARCH, USCE or LORs and will need visa. I really want to train in Adult Neurology--in fact it's why I left my home country because we're still not very good in that area. Money is an issue--don't we all have that? hahaha...so I am thinking--do I have to be more practical and apply in less competitive programs then just shift to neuro--at least I'll get the USCE? I can't afford an externship--even if I just have to pay for board and lodging. Right now, I am staying with family. It seems the amg/img wall is much tougher to break in neurology than IM or peds or psych. My friends who are going to these fields are piling up the interviews. So my question is--especially for last year IV hunters--around when can you expect the interviews to come in? from last year, it seems november...is that too late to apply to the other specialties. I REALLY REALLY WISH I CAN DO NEURO ASAP though : ) well, good luck to us!

Wellcome to the forum. With your current situation absent neuro background is the only hurdle. But still you would get neuro IV (with gods graces) and yeah they start late around early to mid october and continue quite late into novemeber and even december. Since prematch is not the norm in neuro so early interviewing is not there problem. I highly advise to apply to backup programs NOW. the highly IMG friendly programs are already started sending in calls and november will be quite late. I applied to 37 neuro, 15 categorical and 18 categorical IM as backup. all the best to you for the match.
