Dear Drs,

I am an IMG ,so my English as well as pronounciation is not that good. So, if I tell the patient ... "I am an IMG and my English is not good. I will be very much happy to explain what you will not understand."

Is that a good idea??? As, I am very much worried as I am weak on that part. NEED advice ..

I think you will kill yourself... If they ask to repeat, you do that, but don's ask for excuse beforehand... In fact, if you admit that your english is not good, why you try to get into residency where you will need to use not everyday- but rather very specific English???

Thanks for the help. I think, I read somewhere that you have to confess if you have weakness in speaking/pronounciation .By this time ,I came to know that you will not get any credit if SPs has to ask for anything to clear. Anyway, I will try my best.

I think you can practice your PAMHUGSFOSS questions ahead of time. If the patient understands those questions with no problem, you may have won half the battle right there. You will repeat 75% of your closing and counseling case after case, so practicing out loud is probably going to help more than you think. There aren't many choices - practicing until you get better is the best way to go. Remember that the exam is graded on a checklist - you will neither get points nor lose points for admitting you don't speak English. You will only be graded on how well the SP understood you, so try to speak as clearly as possible. But you have to practice saying things you KNOW are grammatically correct. For example, your sentence "I will be very much happy to explain what you will not understand" has several errors of grammar that make it a little hard to follow. If you can stick to sample questions you have read in FA, for example, you can probably avoid having the SP struggle to understand you or ask you to repeat yourself. Best of luck!

Ok that statement will be considered irregular behaviour as u r divulging information about yourself which you shouldn't.

there are some standard questions you need to ask. Remember be clear, be adequate and be confident. remember you are dealing with patients and you are a doctor. That will get you through.

Good luck. there is a lot of help available to improve and that you can do if you put your mind to it.
