Dear BBB,
I came to US last year determined to complete my PHD in Epidemiology. I am now interested in giving step 1 and step 2 simultaneously with my PHD. I was told that this way my MBBS from India will be recognised in US and I will have better opportunities after my PHD in Epidemiology. Please let me know whats your opinion.

I can't answer that. My experience is with residency in IM.

Your MBBS is already recognised in the US. This does not mean you can practice in the US without doing residency. And if you want to do residency, then you are required to take the USMLE.
