Hi Me and my husband are silent visitors to this forum for some time. We want to thank you all for the great posts. My husband is very upset because he got his CK results yesterday. He failed it and he didn't expect it. I'm trying to help him overcome this. I don't know what to say. I advised him to write the exam in Nov. He wanted to go for this match for FM, IM and anesthesia. What do you think he should do now? With out CK results, do you think he can apply for programs. He got 89 in Step1 and pass CS. Got 1 yr Anesthesia experience (non-US) no US LORs. Give me your opinions which would help me. I appreciate all of your help. I personally don't know much since I'm not in this field. Thank you

Dear kingraj, I am sorry to hear regarding your husband and I guess you are a good wife who was upset and posted on the forum.Just tell him to keep his hopes high.I think he needs to study hard and be very well prepared for the exam. Haste makes waste .If he goes to exam unprepared it is not going to benefit him.His main focus should be preparing for the exam and passing with high score so that he can make it up for the failed attempt. Also he needs to be confident and well prepared before he retakes it.He should find what are his weakness ,study those areas and take nbme to judge himself. Also at this point I would say he should also work on his resume and get some U.S externship/observership to make his resume strong . He can apply for the match with these two scores and see if he gets any interviews ,but the program will not rank him until he is ecfmg certified so the decision is yours ......but I would suggest that passing step 2 ck with high scores should be the main target as of now .And he will pass with good scores ,but donot push him into retaking the exam soon or going to the match. For him getting a high score in step 2 is essential and you know it needs hard work as well as dedication and time. I wish him good luck in the exam as well as in match

Hi, It had happen so many times with so many people. If visa is no issue I would highly suggest waiting a year and making CV strong besides passing CK with a good score. and even go for step3 with good score. (because an attempt in ck will make programs think of his chances of passing step3). Waitin a year is not a big thing (and shouldnt be made an issue). Hell i lost a year just because i couldnt get a visit visa on time.

Many, many years from now.....when you guys are millionares and living the good life....will he think back to this time and still regret the 1 YEAR he lost ? Life has obstacles. This is just one more he has to overcome. Be patient and let him score well the next time around. His time will come........

Thank you Zianab, Kingsofke and zrf80. I was busy with my 6 month baby and I couldn't reply on time. I appreciate your comments. As Zianab mentioned, I understand the importance of scoring high. In fact, it's better to fail than passing in the border line. We are living in Canada and my husband has B1/B2 Visa. Can you guys give us some tips in getting extensionship position in US? Once again thank you so much

hi, I highly appreciate your support to your husband.i think your husband should write for ck at least before December ,November may be close. He had written the exam earlier and so it will not be difficult for him to start preparation ,i suggest he must take his exam till dec and if money is not an issue he must apply to some programs because there are some applicants who get matched with this cv and also he may get a chance during post match scramble .anything is possible ,you can try and you should ,as we all are doing.i think you should not let this year to pass as it is
