Congrats Alex! THanks Docnikki...i hope to do better... How do we prepare for CCS? i'm not sure about changing locations...should we admit the patient to ICU and then shift to general wards and then discharge? UW ccs just gives the knowledge isn't it?

Oct 12th. Hi digeorge. I have no idea how to master CSA. I have done 15 of thosec cases so far and still not confident I think I will watch the CD they send and will see how the siftware works and then continue the rest of the ccs cases of UW. In the end I plan to take usmle steps123 for practicing CCS. Alexe thanks for writing in here. It motivates me alot. Im in your boat except for the thing that I have 1 month not 2 Congrats Alexe for passing CSA. I too passed . Yipppeeee ECFMG certified!! Since the time i wrote last in this dairy I had been struck with severe gastroentritis and couldnt study unfortunately. thanks alexe for the motivation you are giving. I will be very happy to see your daily progress here. I was slow too before the csa result and I have noticed a big difference in my speed after that. Yesterday after recovering from my illness and getting Csa result I got up with full enthu and did 4 blocks of UW and read 7 pages of crush step3. I will write in this diary my daily progress and hope my speed performane improves every day. I have 1 month alexe. I am waiting for my ecfmg certificate too and then will apply for step3. I hope I get to take the exam on 8th and 9th as I have planned. rest is up to god. Im working hardest I can. the target for the next 8 days ( 13th oct untill 20th oct ) is to 1)FINISH UW MCQS along with the revision of wrong answer revisions. 2) FINISH IM CK Kaplan notes plus the IM UW Ck notes 3) Half of crush step 3 4) ALL of the CCS cases of UW. Lets see how I manage this in 8 days. its like DO OR DIE FOR ME! Come on EAGLE focus on your target sharply and head towards it with FULL SPEED. YUP YOU CAN GET IT! going to bed to rise tomorrow with a fresh and motivated mind.

I finished GI from kap and UW ck notes. they were vast. also did Endo. did very few UW step3. just some explainations. and couldnt get the chance to look at the ccs software from cd. getting a lil scared. I dont know how to handle these ccs cases. I wish to practice with the software..just reading through UW ccs printouts is so bland and passive. any suggestions? IM is so vast. going to bed with the hope to do better tomorrow. My targets are big but I have no other choice! Do or Die!

Hello DocNikki and everybody, Good luck to everybody.I passed the CS exam that I wrote in Atlanta in mid August. Will be applying for step 3 in a couple of days.Revisiting you after along long time.Finished UW CCS cases two times, finished UW mcqs 2 times and Kaplan mcqs 2 times.I thought of Swainson but I think I just want to goover the things I know and get it more stronger and morever they test you on the concepts and not anything else.Might browse through Swainson but nothing else. Will revise UW mcqs and Kaplan mcqs another time.I look at the cases of the CCs and write down my own orders.I also browsed thru crush step 3.I felt that first aid to step 3 was easier to understand and retain. So folks, chow and good luck in your endeavours. RM

Yes if the case is very acute and needs to be hospitalised admit to the ICU and then downgrade depending upon the severity of the illness

Oct 16th. hey Rita Congrats! Wow such an extensive step3 prep..Im sure youre gonna score high. be confident Im doing the ccs cases today. I dont have the luxary to do everything 3 times but I shall manage 2 times. Rita do u remember all the orders? I mean in doing the ccs cases it seems the we have to know the orders..the treatment is not that hard isnt it?..so revise ccs is it ok if we revise the orders..I guess we will be fine with the approach. GL everyone.

Oct 17th. so far have done first 30 cases of UW and UW 550mcqs. have around 800mcqs to go..and many more ccs cases. getting nervous now. its a terrible feelling. I really wish to postpone..but I may loose my chances of prematch if I dont take this step timely. but if I take it timely and get a low score or not mae it I may loose prematch anyway! cant decide. hard work is the key I know but...sometimes prep time is also a key factor. so far 5 Ivs. happy about that . So let me get set to complete my huge targets with full determination with the confidence of making it to the best. will do mcqs today as much as I can.

Oct 18th. Oh thanks so much alexe for that encouargement. I agree last 2 weeks are the best period of any prep! we tend to get magic powers during then. Im traveling to USA on 3rd nov. Then there i have the exam within a week which I may not be using much as ..so many reasons..jet lag and 'not my home" environment. till 30th I have 12days!! So I should be crazily wrapping up from now!. definitely will postpone if my NBMe scores dont allow me to take it. welcome medocock and yes Im absolutely fine. Thanks for asking. Thanks and most welcome here move along. Im glad that this diary keeps you all motivated I did mcqs but very less than expected these 2 days. I got slow on explainations. will do more and after doing some substantial amount will write in here. Completing ALL my mcqs is my major target for now. ccs comes after that. my cumulative score till now is 51%..not too good..thats the only worry about UW I always had even in ck. Have a nice time everyone till then

Going thru notes for the step 3 docnikki.I dont think going thru just the orders for the ccs will be a good idea.Because management changes from stage to stage.I am thinking of writing step 3 in a couple of months sometimes even more earlier.Depends on how i feel about my prep by the end of this month.I have already paid the fees for the step 3 waitind for the scheduling permit.By the by Docnikki do you know how long it takes for the results to be published after the step 3? good luck everybody with the match. results are generally out in 3 weeks. RitaM. Questions for everyone visiting this site: esp Alexa and RitaM If you don't mind can u tell me who verifies documents for the FSMB? I know you need to be certified. But I can't figure what other verifications need for this exam??? Thanks! and can u get dates easily? how long after you apply does one get their scheduling permit?

Rita M have you applied for H1..asked coz I applied for that too thats why thinking of taking step3 in nov. I have to alot...currently trying to finish mcqs of UW..then have to revise all my ck notes and then have to work on the ccs. finally I have to practice CCS and mcqs for a week before my exam. I sweat when I think of the exam. I have to join my observership in nov so I will have just half day for studying and will be very tired also. meducoz, alexe and Rita and others who are visiting this site..anyone of you managing step3 with other things also? just for encouragement. There wasa festival and i lost 2 days in that. Honestly I felt to take off from studies fora while got lazy. now again back to my mcqs. Hope to finish them soon.

Wish you all the best in the step 3.Afetr you finish the step 3 this november could you please tell me how the exam was.I am thinkingof writing in mid November or by the end of November.I.e when I feel confident. Finally concentrate for the step 3 now. There are only three weeks left.Go away to a hideout and dig into the books. To DocNikki: I am working thru a part time job and going thru such a lot of personal conflicts. But i have learnt something from the past none of the past matters it is the here and now that you have to work at.Practise visualisation techniques or yoga.Visualise yourself as a very top ranking Physician may be in harvard,Mayo or cleveland clinics and you will achieve it. Thank you for all your replies, I appreciate every bitof input. I am a canadian so an H1 visa doesnt matter to me.I am writing the step 3 because my scores in the Step 1 and step 2 are pretty average which I had written quite a while ago.Now my preparation is almost complete, but i dont want to commit myself,I am procrastinating. To meducok: I am writing the exam for the state of California where postgraduate experience is not a requisite. I think USMLE verifies the certificate for FSMB,but i am not confident about this information. I did an online application for the step 3.Mailed in the letter of identification yesterday notarized by a notary. It is said in the FSMB site that the scheduling permit should be available by the end of 8 days for an electronic application and four weeks for a paper application.I havent got my scheduling permit yet. so I will not be able to enlighten you on that aspect. So folks, see you after a couple of days RitaM

Thanks RitaM: That helps. Docnikki: I too am awaiting my certification. I didn't think we can apply until then. Anyway I haven't managed to studying while busy doing applications, run behind my referees for LORS plus await my step one scores. This week I have just been busy trying to get sorted for travel. For you, you know when you want to take the exam. You need to do this. You might have to physically force yourself to do what it takes. And you are going strong. Festivals come every year. Trust me they do. This struggle you don't want to do for too long. Totally go for it. And then bye bye to steps.
