I'm with bbb on this one. My brain hurts from all these numbers.

Hey deja_vu,
thanks for the Official info-Puts a lot of things into perspective-Just a small clarification
BUT BBB is NOT wrong- She was kind enough to look up the data of students applying to her program so far this year-
Rather she deserves a VERY Big THANK YOU BBB!!- for taking the trouble -dont you agree?
This exclusive data set so early in the application period(most AMGs re still applying) is very different from what you get from the Official sources- the official source is a mixed pool of all programs right from harvard to programs that hardly fill their seats- And BBB s data is from a single (middle tier?) IM program and most importantly This years data- absolutely current -Live- thats why I love this forum!

Deja_Vu
Really interesting stuff- I was shocked by the numbers - esp that almost 40% of IMGs for IM seemed to have at least 1 research publication! And upto 80-90% for dermat!!!
As for the scores being on the lower end I think the other point is that on pg12 they say that data for approx 5000 IMGs is missing - they have Step1 data for only IMGs who also gave step3!
May be if the contributors to this thread work more with the data that we have we can publish it and get a research publication ;-)
I can already see the title:
USMLE scores and the Match2008:An IMG perspective- A prep4usmle report

Now this is going interesting.
Sorry bbb BUT,
It seems the source from where you have taken data has underestimated the number of IMGs taking USMLE and Applying for Match.
Here is what my source says.

Number of IMGs:
U.S. Citizen Students and Graduates of Foreign Schools- 2,091 (8.2%)
Non-U.S. Citizen Students and Graduates of Foreign Schools 5,554 (21.9%)!!!!!!!
Total number of ALL applicants was-- 25,348 (100.0%)

Your assuming that bbb's program is a microcosm of the entire match pool. From her numbers, it seems that bbb's program is a very img-friendly place, and doesn't have too many AMGs. Her numbers are certainly not a represenation of the entire match pool, but only of her program

Yes hypomaniac, I agree with you BBB has done really good work for all of us. Actually I misinterpreted it. I thought that BBBs data shows the TOTAL NOMBER OF IMGs from EACH DIFF PROGRAMs. But you have to agree all the "DATA" have one thing in common. They are scary.

so mid 80s score time became a terrible past............its almost failing!!!!!!!because for example even if you have 83-85 kind of range...the chances are to get into the residency tends to zero.....that sucks more than anything else...even than math!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see I am 88/93 and also suck at math! keep a watch on me! On a serious note what is important is are scores the ONLY criteria for getting an IV? Personally I think I'd also go for interviewing a 99er when given someone with my scores for example, but I don't think i'd be calling only 99s. BBB's perspective certainly is called for and cherished!

If we could only know how the applicants with these scores were ranked by the program? wink Would give us a good idea of the correlation between the scores and the importance programs placed on them. A program rank order list with corresponding scores would be perfect.grin
