Hmm, Asmi correct me if I am wrong but I read that 2nd through 4th clefts are what form the cervical sinuses. And a persistent cervical sinus is what leads to a branchial cyst in the neck. Doesn't this mean that it comes from 2,3,4 clefts???? By the way, the 1st cleft gives rise to EXTERNAL AUDITORY MEATUS.

is only the second cleft that proliferates through 3 and 4 to meet the epicardial ridge, obliterating 3 and 4 cleft. failure to do so == cervical sinus or fistula
