We are conducting a Cardiology Quality of Care study at the University of Chicago Hospitals, which is ranked amongst the top 25 hospitals in the country, and we need research volunteers with a medical background in the months ahead. These positions will give volunteers who fill them a great opportunity to familiarize themselves with the ins and outs of a research study conducted at a strong University Program. The work we do examines the quality of care given to patients with CHF and AMI patients and compares it to guidelines laid down by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid. I am in IMG myself and have been with the study for 2 months now. I have agreed to invest 9 more months in this study because I feel the experience will be crucial to securing a cardiology fellowship later on in my career. While this experience in itself does not provide a name in it's eventual publication, the experience is invaluable for IMGs wishing to get a strong US LOR. Those applying to University programs next year will also benefit greatly from their time spent here. We are conducting interviews these days and look forward to hearing from interested applicants. However, I'd like to stress a few points before you contact us: * This is a volunteer position. That means we won't be able to pay you. * We'd want people to work at least 20 hours a week with us. Our letter of recommendation is contingent on the amount and quality of work provided by you. * We would STRONGLY prefer people living in the Chicagoland area who are within easy commute distance to the University of Chicago Hospitals. We do NOT want people traveling to Chicago on our behalf. * We cannot guarantee that we'd take you on to the team until we interview you. Ideally, the kind of person we want is someone applying for the 2009 match. For the 2008 match, applicants will soon be going for their interviews for long stretches of time. If you are done with your steps or planning on doing them sometime next year and would like a strong US LOR in your application, then do consider this opportunity. It would be a worthwhile investment of your time and money. As one IMG to another, I can tell you that my experience of working here for the last 2 months has been extremely rewarding. The people on our team are very nice and very professional. I interviewed at 5 other places when I was looking for research slots and I decided on this team because they seemed to be the warmest ones, an initial impression that has that has held to be true since then. Do contact me with your CV at ashanawa@medicine.bsd.uchicago.edu regards, Atif Shahnawaz, Research Assistant Section of General Internal Medicine. University of Chicago Medical Center 5841 S. Maryland Ave., MC 6080 Chicago, IL 60637
