If on NGT and NG Lavage....find bile...does it mean Lower GI bleed?

If on NGT & NG Lavage....find blood....than upper GI Bleed

If anyone can clear this concept for me.....not really good at GI shaking head

If NGT you find no blood and there is bile in it then you have gone deep enough and its probably not UGI look for LGI cause.

IF NGT you find no blood but there is no bile then you havent ruled out duodenum as the cause and have to do an endoscopy to be sure and then go for LGI.

IF anytime you fine blood thats it. plan for endoscopy for treatment. suspected varices then within first 4-6 hours and if suspeted ulcer then within 24 hours.

I understand that NGT is inserted to pte for gastric lavage, it doesn't help to diagnosis Upper GI bleeding. When we suspect GI bleeding we have to do Endoscopy as soon as possible.

I have one Q... Is normal that we find BILE in the stomage????confused I though that is not....
