WHat do you want to do?- Prelim is only for 1 year IM, a pre requisite for some specialities- The Categorical is the complete IM residency- If you plan to apply also for other specialities, you should opt for both But prelim IM and other specialities are much more competitive

i wanna do categorical but i thought by selecting both options the program will consider me for both positions and chances of getting interviews will be increased

if this is the wrong approach plz let me know because i am applying to some more programs i wont do it know.

thanks

Many, many applicants mark on both. Unless something in the personal statement indicates a preliminary year, it is assumed that a categorical program is being applied for. Don't worry about it.
