Whats the most common cause...Stap. aureus or Salmonella???

I know salmonella is more commonly seen in sickle cell pt. with osteomylitis....BUT is it the most common cause in sickle cell patient.??

Staph (even in sickle cell) --> Salmonella is the 2nd most common

for general population...........staphi aureus
foe sickle ceel disease...........salmonella

i just did ques in UW... they mentioned salmonella osteomyelitis in sickle..

i agreed with this staph osteomyelitis is still the most common.

so, wht would be the next step of management if u suspect osteomyelistis???

antibiotics, bone scan, MRI, ct scan, cultures, ?

1st Take X Rays and Blood Culutres then give Ab's while awaiting culture results
if X Ray is negative go for Bone Scan (or Mri if Spine or Foot is Involves or their is significant swelling since MRI is the better test for areas with increased Soft Tissue)

if Bone Scan or MRI are also negative -- Bone Biospy n Culture should be next
