A 62 year old man is found unresponsive in his house. He is rushed to the emergency department, placed on artificial respirator, and transferred to the intensive care unit. The patient dies 4 days later. Autopsy is performed, which demonstrate a linear area just lateral to the interhemispheric fissure bilaterally, in which cellular architecture is lost and there s a neutrophilic infiltrate.Gram s stain is negative.
