Hey Ummah.. Try Albert einstein. I know that at least in medicine they have observers. Also Mount sinai, and cornell if not in the main program, maybe at lincoln hospital ( the peds people seem very nice at Lincoln) Chiqui. My IV season went fine, I can't complain really. tomorrow is my last IV and I am a little tiered of the show you have to put together for it, but is the last one and it is still an IV so I will do my best. Tomorrow is the ranking list opening too so now the real deal comes around! what about you?

Annagarcia: I'm pretty much done as well. Have one more scheduled, but don't think I will be able to travel for it. I'm pleased. My IVs went well. I actually got offered a prematch, but didn't take it in the hopes that I can get something that is a little more convenient for me. Will be very anxious until everything is in its place. In the meantime, my little baby, who will be one year old next month, has been quite sick with GERD. Looks like he has esophagitis. Not much sleep in the past month. Well ladies - stay well.

Welcome Sai - sounds like you are in a very frustrating position. I wish I had wise words for you, but to me, it sounds like you have organized yourself fairly well. Its not over yet - things still have time to turn around. Perhaps with Step 3 scores and a license you might increase your chances. I believe life has a way of taking you where you need to be, so hang in there and don't lose hope, because hope floats. As for me, I'm still biting my nails. Having turned down a prematch, I am now empty handed until something else comes along. Understandably, I am freaking out. Baby is doing a little better, thankfully - he's on 4 different meds and is still screaming bloody murder a couple of times each night, but all in all he is better. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Hello Sai. I think the major issue is that you are not targeting one thing but everything at the same time... if I were you I would make up my mind on one specialty and get USCE for next match Also if you can try to make connections from very early on so you will have a better chance. Other thng are you living in the uS or in india?

Hi pals - guess what? I got 2 prematch offers yesterday, one from my top choice!!!! I asked for the weekend to think things over, but, God willing, I will accept an offer on Monday and be done with this process. This is such a relief! In the meantime, we christened my son last week, and I am now planning a Mega Birthday party for his first birthday. Poor thing deserves it. And I deserve a bit of a celebration myself. Last year was tough. During 2007 I sat for Step 1, Step 2, CS, had a second child, went on 8 interviews and made it through my Surgery and OBGYN internships. I'm tired. Next stop: I want my body back!

Hi Chiqui., Congratulations to you, hard work paid off, Anamgarcia, thanks for your pointers, yes! I am seriously thinking of peds, I have been in US since 4 years, with Canadian green card, all my family members have US or Canada passports, I am still Indian. For peds is it better to get into academia (MPH or some clinical research) or externships/observerships in hospitals ? I am thinking of trying both, any ideas please, oh god! this forum is so good, thanks to you all. Sai.

Thanks everyone. I'm on cloud 9. I won't get lost Arlete - I still have to take Step 3! Sai - I was just re-reading your original email. I wonder - how is your personal statement? If you have to go through the match process again next year, you may want to have someone check over your PS to see if it is really working for you. Also, have you considered psych? At least in the NY area, many of the psych programs have a lot of Indian women with kids who may be sympathetic to your situation.

chiqui what an awsome news for you... congrats! so you will be taking your dream position in what? medicine? peds? whatever cpngratulations... you deserve it.... now for step 3 I suggest you make sure you study the CCS very well.... the theory is very similar to the step2 but the CCS makes all the difference in the world... where are you going to be starting your residency? just to have a refence point. Sai... I think you have a great chance to get your peds residency if you focus on it. taking step3 is one important thing to do. Next make sure you are strong for scramble. If you had any interview at all then you should F/U on those programs. if not calm down relax and find a job as research coordinator.... those are not hard to find, although they don't pay very well. the other option as I said before is to show up at the PD office and ask plainly for an observer there... I am praying for you, so you can get your peds residency... Be strong.... you will get it!

Anagarcia - I'm going into Psychiatry. Regarding Step 3 - I have no energy left for that now. I'm still in medical school, so I'm not focusing on it at all right now. Can't even sit for it until after I graduate. But I wanted to start studying so I don't have to do all the studying during PGY-1. Lets see . . .

Good morning everyone. Stopping in to share good news again - I've signed my prematch agreement. It's official!!! I'll be withdrawing from the match later today. I'm so excited! In the meantime, my son turned 1 year old yesterday. Poor thing spent the day at the gastroenterologist and having bloodwork done. He'll have an upper GI series done tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be feeling better by Saturday for his big Pirates of the Caribbean Birthday Bash. Best wishes to all for a nice day today.
