Hi everyone, This post when I first read it was a big source of motivation to me, knowing there are many strong women out there ready to put up a fight to desereve what they are worth of. I want to thank each and everyone of you for sharing your stories. My daughter is almost 6 months now and I am still nursing, Yes you can do it even with the interviews. Thanks to Medela pump which has been a part of my every interview schedule so far. You can pump at airports, at freindly chief residents offices, at hotel restrooms and even on the airplanes. You do have to deal with separation and baby`s nursing strikes but in the end I hope everything is going to be alright. So anybody who is pregnant or have small children please have hope and a positive attitude and god will help. Good luck to you all. If anyone is in the same boat as I am please feel free to PM me to share stories and find support.

Anagarcia - congrats!!! Di - yes - my medela pump and I have been inseparable for the past few years. I nursed my first for a year and 10 months. My second is 10 month old now and there is no end in sight. I've pumped in the oddest places. For my step II I had to use all my break time for pumping, otherwise I would not have been able to think for the last few blocks. That pump was a gift from my sister for my first baby, and I'm still using the same one. Best couple hundred bucks ever spent! E2O - If I didn't congratulate you already on another thread, let me do it now. Congrats. I will have to use you as an example of how things can fall into place. Hi to everyone else. Hope all is well with everyone's interviews, babies, pregnancies, etc.

Anp - don't give up hope. Some programs are still offering interviews. Even if none come, by having applied you can work the scramble. And if not, then believe that God has a plan for everyone, including moms and kids, and that maybe it was in the cards that you spend one more year at home. But I think it is too soon to tell. Good luck!

Hey everyone. Just a quick note to wish everyone a merry christmas. We have toys all over the house here, as all the nieces and nephews were together in a gift unwrapping frenzy. Feeling tired, but blessed to be with my family for the holidays. I hope each and every one of you is enjoying this time, that you are safe, healthy and surrounded by love. Peace on earth and good will towards all.

hello ladies... thanks to you all for your good wishes and support. merry christmas to all, now for the ones that have not gotten IV's it is OK... call the programs show how good of a candidate you are and after that say, do you think you can consider my application for an IV? it may not work but I think is worth trying. If worse comes to worse and no IVs come, you guys have to have your eyes fixed already in the next year match... no more stay at home moms, If you can find a part time job, or a rotation or some volunteer work related to medicine, that will increase your chances for next year, also all of you trying for next year aim to have step 3 schedule/ passed by nov/dec next year because it is a big plus for the programs. really. I have not matched yet but I think I have done all I can to match so if none of this work at least I will be happy that I tried my best. You all should do the same, call, email, show up at the program's director office, do whatever it takes for them to know you and do not step back until you have an answer (either an IV or a rejection) Best of luck. and as arlete says If you believe you can walk above water don't roll up your pants ! Cheers to you arelete

I am preparing for cs, going to Chicago in February 15th. If any of you busy moms could practice with me online, that would be fantastic! But I only have Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 3. I'll try and practice with husband, too, but I think an MD partner would be more critical. Ana, very good news, I am praying for you, keep us posted. Girls rule!!!! (Big ones too!)

Hello! I have a 4 1/2 year old daughter who is currently in Pre-K. I started studying for my exams on November 2006 and got my ECFMG certificate last November 2008! It has been a long, loooong struggle for me and my family both financially, emotionally and physically. But God is good. All the work has finally paid off! I have 4 interviews lined up for me! So to all you wonderful moms out there, IT IS POSSIBLE. We are the great multi-taskers. Good luck to all!

hi to all moms i'm not new to this forum but writing first time in this thread. i'm also a mom of 2 kids, 4 1/2 boy and 2 1/2 girl, i took all my steps last year 2007, step 1 in may, csa in july and ck in nov with scores of 81/199, passed and 87/211 respectively. i applied in sep with step 1 score only in peds in ny and nj. i know how diff it is to study with kids and home, my scores are not impressive but i really worked hard and i'm happy with my scores coz i couldn't do more in situation where i am. anyway i could get any iv yet, i have gc, out of school since 7 yrs and no usce. currently i'm trying to get usce some where. i want some advises from you people, what shd i do now? i didn't realize before that yrs of graduations matters that much, i thought i might get some iv from community hospital. i found every prog criteria before i applied but every thing was useless. actually i'm in some financial prob too and need to do job some where, looking for some research job but no luck yet. i'll really appreciate yr response. thanks

hi umma.... Iknow that the university programs have the option of observership.. say mount sinai, has one and I know cornell has a lot of chances... I would jus look up the peds dept in the universities in the area and ask for an apt... maybe that will work I have to warn you though that most likely you will have to pay for that GL

ummah - welcome and congratulations on passing all of your exams! I think those scores are pretty impressive with two kids. I think you should be OK for residency - if not this year, next year - especially if you can get some USCE. It will largely depend on the specialty of your choice too. Stay positive. Annagarcia - how is your IV season going?

thanks for encourgment. i've started observership in a doctor office in IM recently coz i thought its better to do something and also trying to get something in hospital in peads. actually i'm more interested in peads, i heard its not as competative as IM but i haven't got any iv. if i apply next year in peads all over usa, do u think it will inc my chances coz this year i applied only in 30 prog in ny and nj or shd i apply in some other prog too like IM or FM. its just i like peads alot and its diff for me to make my mind for IM/FM. one thing more if i get 1 or 2 months usce, would it increase my chances in scramble? thanks for yr responses and good luck for yr ivs.

I think you will not get anything through scramble, because those position are granted on a political level, and for what I sense you are not 'the child' of any american doctor. Besides if you want peds you should go for peds, not for any other thing that is not appealing.... Get a letter from this doctor but still try to get into an observership in the pediatrics department. NY NJ is a good area to apply to, and if you have enough money and the freedom to move, I would also apply to pensilvania florida, texas... you know? places where there is a big crowd because they are more likely to take you. I think your weak point this year was the fact that you didn't have USCE. I am saying that because a faculty member told me exactly that my application looked good, BUT my USCE was not recent bla bla and therefore he could not have a measure for how good will I be as a resident. So there you go, that is what they want. Look for your observership and work very hard... do some politics and you will be in for next year.

thanks anamgarcia. you r right, i shd focus more on usce. do u or any one else know any hospital who has observership prog in peads in NY? i live in queens,NY. i tried in NYHQ, its a good hospital but they don't have any observership prog and i don't have any contacts. i asked my kids pediatrician to help me for this but she gave me a very flat answer . she is still my kids doctor but not for longer period. good luck.
