Dear Ashy2, welcome and I really feel for you. This is going to be my second match and I was really shaken when I didn't match last time. Took a while to pull myself together but I am back. My board scores are excellent and I completed all 3 steps in 11 months but now I realize that I have many other deficits including old grad, gaps in cv, late application, need visa, may be IV performance. I am trying to improve cv with USCE which I think you should also consider. keep yourself busy with something to boost your application till this sept. At the same time I am very much into exploring other options as well. GL to you.

Thx Chiqui for the response. Yes, i tried au pair and it seems to be a very good option. However it is open only for US citizens. Yes, I am trying thro' networking and hope something will click.

hello girls... Once more, thank you for all the blessings and the good wishes you sent to us. we are doing great I am tired but happy. To the new ladies... believe me, you are in the right thread, many of us here ahve gone unmatched before, we have been in the dark hour of doubt about God's plan for us. But it will be fine, as Arlete said, count your blessings, we have our children, and that in itself is a great source of joy and strenght. Focus on filling up the weak cracks from your previous applications. and this is easier said than done, but really it is not impossible. if you have not taken step3 plan to do so before september. If no USCE go and volunteer, get an observership, do something to fill that gap. if old grad, start working on your personal statement to increase your strengh by having all your good things nicely written in it... Try to get letters from american doctors and if you have them, try to update them so it looks fresher... Also don't make the mistake I made on going only with your heart. this is a game and you have to play it smart. Go of course for your first choice in specialty, but have one or two back up specialties, because you really never know.

Hey ladies, quick note to say hi and to pop this thread back up to the top of the first page! Ana - how are the girls? Arlete - what are you using to study for step 3? Pregnant friends, how are those bellies? All well on my end. By the end of next week I will be finished with medical school. My kids are in good health. All is well.

hey just a query... how is the attitude of PD and programmes towards 'pregnant applicants'..?? do they hesitate in ranking candidates who are due in the first year.. (during internship)... do moms here have any experiences of similar kind..???

Ganesha - I love your avatar. Very cute. As for your question . . . I hate to say it, but I would assume its a problem. Legally, of course, you can't discriminate against a pregnant candidate, but realistically, unless your credentials are really remarkable, I would assume a due date in the first year would be seen as a negative. Mathematically, however, because interviews occur long before July 1, chances are that if you are visibly pregnant during the interview you would be due long before residency starts. Say you are 5 months in February, you would still give birth before July 1. If you are not OBVIOUSLY pregnant at the interview, it shouldn't even come up as a topic of discussion. If you are, I would simply say that you are due before residency starts and that you have an extensive support system lined up so that you can give the residency your all and still take good care of your child.

I can tell you now that sofia is big, I have pictures off course, but totally forgot to download them to the laptop. I am back at the lab... wrapping up my project. Last week one of the papers in which I worked got published and I accepted a position at yale (but is obviously lab work) anyway my new boss is very considerate and I will be working in preeclampsia... hopefully that will work for this year's match... Do you have any plans for mother's day? lets have a mother's day virtual party!!!!

Hello everybody I'm a silent reader of this forum. I'm a mom of a 2year old. graduated in '05 was pregnant when i did my step 1. could use that as an excuse for not that great of a score. I worked as a research assistant for a couple of months but was a mom to my 2year old most of the time. I went into the match twice. finished with all my steps. but my scores, my year of graduation and gap in my CV didn't help me much. Was devastated when i didnt' match this year. Just had one interview and expected a lot out of it. It's a great feeling when i read thru all the posts. Feel like i have people who know how i feel. I'm planning to get some USCE before i apply next year, but since i have never sent my daughter off to day care feel very bad about it. but need to do that very soon... Thanks a lot everybody for sharing your experiences.

hello ayrinu. You definitelly came to the right place.... Don't you worry about your girl... she will love school, they all do, because they get to playall day and you will feel bad for a while because that is how we all fell, but really there is nothing wrong on letting them have a life of their own. you will find your own life will be fuller with things they learn at school and you will enjoy the time you spend with her, but still have time for yourself. About going unmatched... it is OK, live is not fair sometimes... but just catch your shooting star and put it in your pocket... save it for a rainy day, don't let it dim... we are here to support each other and here is the so expected picture of sofi

She's ADORABLE, Ana! So cute, so small... so precious... It's so nice to hear from you, I like the news about Yale and working with preeclampsia. You go, girl! I am going for step 3 during the last week of June. Scoring around 56% in uw, got 520 on NBME... Let's see how it goes... Another 99 wouldn't hurt my application, that's what I'm aiming for. Going to noon conferences at the program I want, 3 times a week. Funny thing is that I am actually answering some step 3 questions with what I learn there, so I am very happy I was given the opportunity to do it. Keep in touch, take care, girls!

Hey Ana, Sofi is so sweet and beautiful . May God bless her with all the happiness and good things in life and always protect her...I almost had tears in my eyes, she is so precious..I am all the more waiting for my baby to come now.. Still 4 months to go , but I ma sure it will be worth the wait.. You too take care Ana, with work and taking care of Sofi would be a little hectic. Try to get good sleep and nutrition .. Arlete, thats a nice score in UW and NBME, I am sure you are heading for a great score.. Good Luck. Your hard work and creating a good impression at the program will definetely work for you... As for me, I am getting a bit nervous and excited about my baby at the same time. I really some times get panicked regarding how will I manage the baby with my residency which would have just started..

taurus82: Thanks for your opinion and wishes. I am praying for you, that things run for you the smoother way possible. You know, many people do it. I just met a lady who's a PGY3 in family medicine, she has a 3 yo, a 2 yo and a 6 month-old baby! I asked her "how do you do it?", she answered "just like residency, I give it my best!"

Good luck Arlete and E20 for step 3. I think NBME resembles difficulty of exam well and I had a similar score in the real exam. Infact it was little lower than NBME mostly due to my mediocore performance in CCS. It is sad they don't have a CCS part for NBME. Any way without a doubt step 3 is the toughest of all 3 and give your best shot. Unlike in other 2 steps I wished I were better prepared and was anxious until I got the results. Good luck once again.
