Hi ladies - I'm here and have been reading. I'm doing a rotation through pediatrics and brought home the worse cold I have ever had. Now the kids have it. So I sort of log on, catch up and log off - no time to think of anything interesting to say. To all our pregnant friends - congrats on another week. To Ana - keeping my fingers crossed for your family. To Allymd - you will not be that far from me - we'll have to schedule play dates. Ana can bring her girls too, so she can see that having to stay another year in NY will not be that bad. Now if we could just get Arlete to come to the NY-NJ-PA area, we would be complete. Finally, to the new members of the forum - welcome. Glad to have you on board.

Ana... good luck with everything, hope you get to know your little princess soon!

Hii everybody....I had been a silent follower of this thread and it has been a great inspiration for me..I will be starting residency this July in Memphis. Looking for some advice from you all regarding childcare. With 80hr/wk schedule and husband working in a different city, I was thinking of live-in childcare or overnight care. My son is 9 yrs old. Any suggestions as to how I can get an affordable service...Those online nanny placement services are too expensive for me. Anybody here, please help...

  #280

Welcome Tropmed. Without a doubt acceptable childcare is the biggest problem facing many of us. I am lucky because I will be moving in with my parents during residency. Even so, all of my salary will go towards daycare, and I will still need help with preparing the kids for school in the morning and watching them while I am on call ( my parents work like crazy, so I can't count on them for day to day routines). I am actually looking for an "au pair" - perhaps someone who needs to work a little while studying for their USMLEs, in exchange for room and board and a small salary. I wish I had an easy answer for you, but you really have to network and get creative with solutions.

What is everyone else planning to do with their kids during PGY-1 ( be it this year or next year)?

My husband will have to jump in for us, and he knows it. I'll have my three kids in the day care from 6:45 AM to 6:00 PM (there it goes the salary, chiqui...), maybe import my mother-in-law a few months a year, use the laundry, contract a cleaning service weekly, call a few good friends for help during emergencies. And pray.

tropmed:

I think "au pair" would be the most affordable for you. Pray God will send the right person your way. It's not easy to trust our most precious treasure, but honest, decent people exist and are a blessing when we need them the most. It's good you have a 9 yo, he will tell you everything that's going on and you'll be able to check how their interaction works. Things are a little more complicated with babies and toddlers (that don't complain).

I love my doctor she was really nice to me. mu husband fell in love for the third time in his live and is a lot more involved than I anticipated. I am exhausted and sore but really happy.
I meant to take pictures of my little sofi, but I found no energy because I have a cold... so I guess you guys will have to wait... I can tell you that the match is in my past now... she is my most reasent blessing and I enjoy being with all my family... BTW mom couldn't come this time since she is working and mom in law is taking care of my niece born just 2 weeks before sofi... so I am trying to manage everything alone... as soon as things normalize I will come more often to talk to you girls...

Applicant09: Welcome to the forum.

Ummah: welcome back.

Anagarcia: FELICIDADES!!!! May God bestow numerous blessings upon little Sofia. May she grow up to be a happy, healthy girl who can be an instrument of peace in this world. May she and Laura turn in to the best of sisters, so that they can each have a constant companion through this life. And may you retain your sanity during the next few months all by yourself. BTW - I love the name Sofia. It is a good strong name for a woman, but does not overpower a little girl. It works both in English and in Spanish. It is a classic name, but is not overused. And it means wisdom, which may be the most important trait in a person. Enjoy!

Ana, congratulations for a new baby, another angel on your side. It will be tough to be a mom with a new-born baby and a resident. Pray that you can handle both very well.

  #292

Hi Arlete, how is your step 3 preparation going? I am still struggling whether I need to study for step 3, or concentrate on USCE, or spending more time with kids, or more time in improving my spoken English.

nkcjzy:

As always, so many things to jugle at the same time for us, moms...!!! So many plates in the air at the same time! wink

My preparation is slow but steady, I am enjoying it. nod

hey chiqui i always read this thread coz while reading i feel like i'm around the people who r like me and really enjoy that. i'm little buzy nowadys coz i'm moving this month from NY to columbus ohio d/t some family reasons. i like NY coz i came here after marrige and i have some close relatives here like my sister whom i'm gonna miss alot. i have lots of pressure in my mind like moving to a new place, prep for 2009 residency, step 3 which i really want to write this year, delivery in few months and how i can find some usce sad. may God help me and all of my friends.

  #299

Hello ladies. I have been silent member of this thread for so long. My first time writing on any forum, ever! But u gals encourage me....so here goes. First congrats to Ana! May this little one, Sofi be a shinning light to all that she mets. This was my 2nd match. Have okay scores....86, 89,80 ,cs all 1st attempts. Had at least 10 interviews in both cycles for IM, peds and medpeds and still didnt match. i thot most of the IVs went well by the way. The 1st time I felt God wanted me to stay home with my brand new baby. This second time , I thot I did everyhting right, Volunteered at a teachin hospital, passed Step 3, submitted on the 1st, prayed my heart out and trusted God whole heartedly Still did not match. My faith has been shaken. At a time wondered if He did not want me to do medicine....but then that is all I ever wanted to do, felt it was a calling. went on Medical missions back home. Right now I am trying to start again and to see what lies ahead for me. It has been a challenge for my hubby who has been extremely wonderful. I think though even he i beginning to lose faith. That kills me, cos he( the last person to) is beginning to talk about alternatives...and i am like God, where are you? ). We will see. I am here for this last ride. See you gals here.

Dear ashi2: I hope somewhere down the road you'll find the answers for all your questions. If you are doing your part, try and calm your heart down. Nothing happens that is not according to His plans and He knows it better. If you still have in your heart the desire to be a doctor in USA, try it again. If you ever think there's an alternative that would make you as happy as it, give it a shot, too, think about it, at least.

We'll back you up from the distance , whatever your decision is, and pray for you. The competition is getting tougher and tougher, just count your blessings to try not to suffer too much. That's what we do... We're rooting for you! nod
