Normal saline is a solution of 0.9% w/v of NaCl-isotonic saline.
Half-normal saline (0.45% NaCl), often with "D5" (5% dextrose) contains 77 mEq/L of Na and Cl and 4.5 g/L glucose.
Dextrose (glucose) 4% in 0.18% saline is used sometimes for maintenance replacement.
In case of hypovolemic shock: Volume resuscitation is initiated with the rapid infusion of isotonic saline( although care must be taken to avoid hyperchloremic acidosis) or balanced salt such as Ringer's lactate
Lactated Ringer's Solution is often used for fluid resuscitation after a blood loss due to trauma, surgery, or a burn injury. It is also used to induce urination in patients with renal failure.
