Well... The most incredible miracle has just been granted to me.
I am sharing this with everyone not to gloat, but so that you can all hang in there and never give up hope. Pray a lot and do whatever it takes to achieve your goals....

Going into last week, I only had 1 IV with many, many rejections, and a few programs "on hold". Monday night, I received a tip from a PGY-2 at the hospital where I work(my #1 choice), that an Intern had resigned. I told her that I would start tonight if they would let me. She proceeded to send the PD an email informing him of my interest. I approached the PD on Wed. morning after grand rounds to let him know that I had applied to his program and was very interested in an IV. Later that same afternoon, I received a phone call and was invited to IV the next day. I attended my IV in scrubs after working the night shift. The IV went extremely well and we got along great. He was a very nice and open person and told me that he had to give it some thought, and that he wanted to speak to one of the faculty members who has worked with me in the past. On Friday, I sent him a thank you email telling him what a pleasure it was to meet with him and how sure I was that I would have no problem catching up to the other interns.... Approximately 2 hours later, he called me to welcome me into the program!!! I will sign my contract tomorrow.

The way that I see it is that this was meant for me. My stars have aligned and I was at the right place at the right time. My prayers and those of my family have surely been answered. My message to all is hang in there and always keep the faith.

Good luck to all.

hello buddies.... How are things going for us low scorers? Indeed things are getting a little to stressful. But hang on... we will all make it!!!.. BTW I passed step 3 grin

  #163

Hello friends, I need some advice. I have applied for 44 IM programs but I have got 20 rejections so far, no IV at all. Don't know if I should keep applying for more programs. My credentials: 90/75/CS pass, all on first attempt, no usce, no us lors, 3 yrs US research exp and some publications. Old IMG. Thank you.

  #164

Keep applying. Why don't you try Family Medicine programs as well? Unless you absolutely hate the idea of FP. Are these 40 IM programs all university based or are there any community based ones among them?

sad IMG... you need to get USCE... that will make all the difference in teh world, Also try to have step 3 passed. i am afraid, that you will have to wait for next year's match. GL

  #168

  #171

For sure anam...I pray that you match and we can see the grown up picture of your daughter

BTW, I shall be stayin at my friend's in NY... I have been trying for long to get into an observership, but with no luck so far

Now I am exploring the possibilty of paid externship somewhere in NY. Do you think its worth?

Anyway...have a great weekend !!!!!!!

For sure...
I would be convinced that the majority of the places where you can go for an observership you will actually have to pay.
I also live in NY, but I dont really have my USCE in any NY hospital. Still I would suggest that you go with your best suit and ask for an appointment with the chair of the department where you would like to match and explain the situation.
They often help the bold people a lot!

  #173

thanx ana for your suggestion.....need to find my best suitnodnodnod

  #174

hello guys,

nice thread,

my scores 90/86/CS scheduled shortly.

can any one help me finding observerships, or externships..

thank you

  #175

ishu, you are not a low scorer - these are nice scores - please, do not feel sorry for yourself ( i have a feeling you kind of feel pity about your scores and that's why you are posting here). I think that these are very good scores and you have very decent chances, in case the rest of your application is with no red flags. So, please, start your own thread - for people with good scores, but not a 99 nod
