Off course residency is first. But most people should have something in mind even though that may change on the way. raised eyebrow

hmmm, I know only one thing for sure: I want to do a fellowship! But which one- I don't want to determine now, I am more than sure this will changegrin...like my deep wish to become a surgeon vaporized in my final year of med school...But I am happy I realized it earlier than later. What a huge mistake it would have been to start a surgery residency...

i noticed your 'switch specialty' option and got reminded of that there are some residents who keep 'switching specialties', seemingly to avoid entering the world of responsibility. i know one girl who entered IM and completed it to then switch to med-peds after which she is now in radiology!!!

hmmm, switching specialties might work once..but there is only a limited time for you to finish residency, you are given a total of 6-7 years. After that certain time they cannot pay you as resident anymore- actually they can't pay you at all, becuase you exhausted all the fundings allocated for you for a residency postition, no matter the fact that you switched specialties...

Being a hospitalist sounds nice. But can you work as one if you FAMILY PRACTICE, or is it just for those that commit to IM ? rolling eyes

Oh Nisha - I am so with you on this one. After my 18th year of Internal Medicine residency, I am so ready to retire!!!!!

in some programs, don't they ask you about your possible choice in fellowship at time of residency i'views? and then try and offer some time with a specialist in that field? so, if you do not have an idea of fellowship, how do you face those qns??confused

thanks.

Just tell the truth. That you might want to pursue fellowship later on, but you are not still sure which one.
