E2O: Congrats! Sandra: I'm no expert, so I can't really comment on any of your questions. I haven't even been able to get a letter from my Dean. Mucha Lucha is a cartoon that spoofs the "art" of "Lucha Libre", which is masked wrestling. Mucha Lucha is also a way of saying that you have to work really hard, or that something is giving you a hard time. The theme song of the cartoon says "Mucha Lucha, its a way of life", which I find to be true.

Sandra: from what I know: 1 - You may state you don't have a MSPE (mine is not worth using, either), ERAS is going to place a different sheet instead, stating you don't have one. According to some, this is a document that is more vital to american graduates. If the program is going to consider your application incomplete or not because of that is a mystery, I think it depends on how competitive it is. 2 - Some residency programs will take care of all the visa issues, some will tell you to hire your own lawyer. But that's something to be taken care of once you match.

Hello Ladies, I hope all is well with your prep and progress in the match. I found this excellent website that has soo much FREE info and for us moms, I think it's great to save $ anytime we can. I don't know what is the most important but I know it has lots of stuff for everything, step 1, 2, and 3 and even specialties. good luck! http://doctors4ward.110mb.com/diploma/index.html

Hi everyone. Hope all is well with everyone. Everything OK here. WAITING to finish medical school in the next 6 months. WAITING for my husband's green card interview next month. WAITING for my christmas vacation so I can have my last few interviews. WAITING for Match day. Watching my kids grow up - my little one is 9 months now - he crawls really fast and eats anything you give him (so now I'm WAITING for him to be old enough to stop breastfeeding so I can have my body back!). Funny how time goes by so fast even though it feels like all you do is wait. Allymd - how did it go????

hi, im in the US on a L2 visa(dependent of a L1 holder). I have already stayed in US for 3 yrs. if i switch my visa status to J1(as i intend to do my medical residency here), how long would i be able to stay in the US on J1. do the number of years that i've stayed on L2 count toward calculating my max no. of years on J1?. i understand that the max duration of stay on j1 is 6 yrs.my question is, would i be able to stay for the whole of 6yrs if i switch from L2 to J1 or would i be allowed only 3 yrs since i've already stayed 3 yrs on L2.? could any one clear this doubt for me ? if thats not possible, could any one give me some reliable sources from which i can procure more info on this. any help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

hi moms out there, therez some other thing which haunts me besides the visa issues. im worried about how i would manage my kid all alone if im not fortunate enough to get a residency position away from where my husband works. from hearsay, its going to be very hectic with the night shifts and all..i dont have family or friends here to take care of my kid. is any one out there in the same situation? what are my options if i take her along with me? are there day cares which work 24/7? please give me some pointers to put my bogged down brain to rest...atleast for a while

Hello Sandra, I have 4 kids, and pregnant with twins, so for me now I have them mostly in school and daycare and my 8 month old is at my moms and a babysitter who picks them all up and takes care of them at home while I study for step 2. But for residency, there is no 24/7 daycares, I know some hospitals have a daycare on campus but I think they all close at 6/7pm. I am looking for a nanny to live in, or be available 24/7 if not. That would be your best bet, just make sure you do research on the person, interview and references. I've tried many websites and found this one to be the best so far: http://www.greataupair.com Good luck!

hi, I'm new in the forum. I'm an IMG in 1995. I have a one-year old baby. My situation is unique. I also got nursing degrees here in the states with full scholarship. I'm a nurse anesthetist for 3 years. My husband encourages me to take the boards. I love anesthesia. Will I have good chance to get matched if I pass the boards? Any suggestions?

I don't know about "good chance". Things against you: graduated a long time ago, a gap in your cv (regarding physician's duties). Favoring you: visa status, knowing doctors that may give you good LORs or talk/call somebody and help you, USCE, and all the good qualities you must have as a person/doctor/nurse/mom (make a list of them, read it from time to time when you need a boost in confidence). What you may work really hard on to favor you: scores in steps. In my opinion, it's worth a try. Maybe you'll offer much more of yourself and reach your full potential as a doctor. Not that being a nurse is less of a carreer, but being a doctor... well, you know what I mean, you've been there...

Welcome zmuxy12 - you have a better chance of matching if you take the boards than if you never take them at all. If you don't take them your chances are 0 and you will never know. I think you should take them. If you graduated in 1995 and have a 1 year old, my guess is that you will still have to work at SOMETHING for the next 30 years or so. So even if it takes a few more years to start working here as a doctor, it will still mean you will be working as a doctor for a quarter of a century or more. Maybe in anesthesia, maybe in some other specialty - but cross that bridge when you get there. Pray for perseverance and enlightenment, and I think life will show you the road you are supposed to take. But whatever you do, don't give up without trying. Glad to have you on board as you embark on this (leg of your) journey.

hi hgheith, thanks for that link! i might have to look for a nanny. another option would be to send my kid away to my home country the thought of which kills me. i very much want my kid to be around me. wondering how single moms manage with job n kids.. though im not a single mom, it might essentially be the same as being like one if i get residency elsewhere(away from where my husband works). btw,ur kids look awesome! they sure must be a handful good luck with the twins and the exam!..take care

hi girls... sorry I was MIA... I´m in chicago now for my firsts interviews... I am in the same situation, my baby will be 10 month old by when I enter residency and I dont have anyone around to take care of baby and my hubby is also applying with me, so I guess nanny would be our only option... I was also suggested to bring someone from my country (I have someone interested, which I know well) to take care of baby, but would have to deal with visa issues (she has none) so dont know if thats possible... have to find out. I´m kind of in a hurry, my first IV is tomorrow and ... NEWS! I just got my step 2 ck score... 232(96). Thank you so much girls for your support, specially chiqui and arlete!! Well, will write my experience later but I have so much to thank for!!! Thaaanks! ttyl

Oh, my, poor girl... How will she ever have a boyfriend with so many "watching out" and frightening brothers...??? Just kidding. I married my old brother's best friend, even though he made us ride in different cars when we were teenagers. He (brother) couldn't stop laughing during the wedding, he couldn't believe it was happening! Thanks for the help, I'll check it out.

Allymd: Congrats on your score!!! Its nice to hear from you again. I wish you the best of luck on your interviews. Hgheith: Congrats on your 2 new boys. God knows why he sends you what he sends you. While you are a resident and making little money, its good to know the twins will have plenty of clothes from their older brothers. And by the time your daughter is old enough to appreciate it, you will have enough money to really spoil her.

Thank you arlete and chiqui! It's nice this forum helps us through our tuff times and good times! and yes she will have a bunch of boys lookin out for her, and lucky for me we do have all sizes and shapes for boys clothes and shoes! Arlete its funny because I also married my brother's good friend! and we too are very strict and religious, i wasn't even allowed in the same room when they were over! And u are right chiqui, God sends us what he has planned for us, and we end up with the person he also plans for us! (I hope He plans a passing score for me!!)

Congrats, dr in trouble! I would apply for the next one. But then I would find something to do during this next year. Gaps in the cv make candidates very unpopular now-a-days... Good luck!

Dr in trouble - its a tough question. If the specialty you are applying to is too competitive, maybe waiting makes sense. Personally, I think I would be inclined to go for it now, but that's just the way I am - its not based on anything scientific or concrete. There are still programs offering interviews, and plenty of people get positions in the scramble, so its not over until it is over. Whatever you decide - I wish you good luck. And BTW - your signature says you should do it today, because there is no tomorrow.

Arlete - yes, those are my kiddos. They are awesome. Seeing some of the photos on this thread, including your own, inspired me to show them off for a few days. Ladies - I'll be heading to the states next week for my final interviews and to spend some time with my family. I hope everyone has a very merry christmas. I hope Santa brings many good things. Remember - toys, not clothes. Messy and noisy toys are allowed during christmas, but no guns. Big trees hold big presents. Candy is an acceptable meal once a week. And if you are hispanic, the fact that Santa comes on Dec 25 does NOT mean that the 3 kings are off the hook on January 6 - BOTH have to leave toys. May your holidays be safe, happy and filled with love, and may the new year bring peace and joy to all.
