Chiqui, that is so nice to have 5 IV already! Wish you match to your dream place!smiling face

Thanks ladies. I'm happy. I only applied to programs close to where my parents live, as my plan is to move in with them during residency. My top priority in terms of selecting a program is geography. I want to be as close to home as possible so that I don't waste a lot of time commuting. In the NY-NJ area, a "reasonable" commute can easily be 45 min or longer (each way). That's 1.5 hours a day that I could spend with my kids instead.

On a different note, my baby just learned to crawl. I'm excited, but I forgot what this phase was like - I can't take my eyes off him for ONE SECOND or he throws himself off the bed. They really do grow up fast.

hi... thanks arlete, but it was too good to be true. I started to low down my UW score, now is 58 after a couple of 54s and a magnificent 45 sad. Only have 2 weeks left and a LOT of questions to do, hope I can at least finish them. Chiqui, so you're in gineco right now? are u kidding me??? u do like it??? wow thats so exciting that your baby started to crawl. I want my baby to start crawling too, but after the exam hehe... I want to play with her timeless smiling face. Well, gotta keep doing qs, take care!

  #55

Hi Allymd, wish you all the best with your exam. Only two weeks left, hope you get UW done!

Hate to say this. But if it were me, I would prefer to postpone my test date if my UW is around 50 so I could have some time finish them all and review them. I would not rush to it when I am not that ready. But I know a friend who got average of 55 or something, didn't finish UW and got a 92 for step1. Hope you are such a case.

Anyway, best of luck!smiling face

Hi to all ,

I am a IMG with 3 kids, I passed step 1 in 2005 and did Ck yesterday, I did CS too on 2nd of this month, I am hoping good grades as i really worked very hard. The only thing makes me little disappoint are the fears of not getting residency despite all this hard work, like CHiqui I have many guilts not giving proper time to my kids, many times I thought about gaveup but then I composed myself and start preparation again. I can understand that how difficult it is for moms to study with kids. I am praying for everyone in this thread and pls pray for me too.

Welcome Dr in trouble. Congrats on taking the last of your exams. I think just TAKING them with 3 kids is impressive. Whatever grade you get will be an accomplishment. I'll pray you pass with good grades. Are you applying to this year's match, or will you wait until next year? What specialty?

Allymd - 1 week to go! Metele duro. Just do questions, questions, questions this week. My objective was to take at least one concept from every set of 50 questions and say - I will not get a questions about this wrong again! If you reach your mental saturation point early, like you can't study at all the day before the exam, change your strategy - walk away fromt he computer and read a topic you find interesting or find something that your semi-friend brain can still digest. Then get a good night's sleep, encomiendate a Dios, and go for it! I know you will do well. Remember that, as soon as the exam is over, you can go back to being a full time mommy for a little while. GOOD LUCK.

Chiqui I didnt apply for this year match. I will wait for 2009 match, I heard it bcomes very difficult to get residency especially for IMGs dute to influx of British doctors,I will apply in FM.

dr in trouble, I will pray for you to get a decent score for your CK.

Yes, I also heard it has become more difficult to get a residency. One program had 3600 applicants for 16 positions. Is that crazy? But what can we do? Just believe in ourselves, apply after thorough research of the programs, and pray, pray, pray. smiling face

Hi girls, JUST ONE MORE WEEK! Gosh I dont feel prepared at all, but I'm so happy this is getting to an end soon. All I want is to pass and hold my baby timeless grin. I'm still doing Qs, its incredible how life changes with a baby. For step 1, I did Qs after having everything read, and did 4 blocks a day (revised). Now I havent read all the material, and I barely do 1 or 2 blocks a day even when someone is taking care of my baby. I really wanted a 99, but right now I prefer to just hold my baby without worrying that I should be studying. I'm like 40% done with UW (needless to say I wont finish) and scoring 59% (including a 0 in a block where I exited the wrong way, dumba$$, so it should be a LIL bit higher). Not sure if I should keep doing as much Qs as possible or maybe read FA. But whatever it is, hopefully, it would be over on Nov 7th... please have me in your prayers!!!! And good luck to all of you too!... PS the IVs are SOOOO slow sad, only have 3. Just waiting...............

  #61

Good Luck to all u ladies! Allymd I hope you do great, I can't wait to be in your shoes!! I have my exam schedualed on Jan31, the last day I can take it. I already postponed my period once, and I was told I cannot do it again. So I am crammed to start studying and finish in 3 months.
By the way I was having complications in late Sept and thought I would loose my baby, but we did a high risk u/s and found out we're having twins! SO I had to take all of OCT off and relax. Now I hope I can make it in time for Jan31, because after I have my babies in march that will make 6 kids for me, and I know I will never get to study again!!
Please pray for me!
I wish you all the best and keep u in my prayers.

  #62

Allymd - I would keep doing Qs instead of reading FA. I didn't like FA for step 2 as much as for step 1. You should be very proud of yourself for getting to this point. And 3 interviews is pretty good! As long as you pass, you should be fine.

hgheith - Oh my goodness! Congratulations on your double blessing! I did all of my exam preparation on bed rest - a laptop and an adjustable hospital table helped alot. I will pray that you are able to prepare for the exam, but above all, I will pray that the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

As for me, I'm heading for the US tomorrow for my first 2 interviews. Have to travel with both kids by myself - I HATE that. My baby is really heavy and my three year old is, well, 3 years old. But I didn't want to travel without them and my husband still doesn't have a green card so . .. One of the interviews is at my first choice, so please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Allymd, I really admire your courage and your determination. You will definitely pass, for you and for your lovely baby. I would suggest you to do Qs too. Since obviously you could not finish, I would say do more Qs in your weak subjects. And review your own notes at the same time if you have one. If you have Crush or Secret, go through them quickly if you can. Best of luck. Pray for you.

hgheith, wow, a twins with four other babies!wink No one can beat you for that. You are very blessed with them. January 31, I may take mine close to that date. We still have time, though it will be very difficult for you to study. I believe you can do that, strong and powerful mom!smiling face

Chiqui, wish you the best of luck with your interview. They would love you, no doubt about that.smiling face

  #64

smiling face I love coming to this post! You guys really know how to keep everyone's spirits up, and the motivation is the best here! Thank you njcjzy, I pray that you do the best on your exam, good luck in your studies.
Chiqui I am soooo happy for you! I really hope you get the position you want, your sweet idea turned into such a great support for all of us moms through this great thread, you do deserve the best. Good luck in your travel, I know it's not easy, 2 babies on a flight is going to be difficult, make sure you take crayons or an electronic game if you have one for the 3 year old, maybe pack a small backpack with books and things to do so they don't get bored and start running around! Trust me if you passed ck you can do this too! Good luck with your interview and may you arrive safely smiling face

  #65

dr in trouble, I am praying for you.

Three kids around here, too.smiling face

Keep us posted.

Well ladies - I'm back. I survived the trip and the interviews. At the last minute I heard from my #1 choice and was able to squeeeze them in too, so I did 3 interviews in 2 days, including my top 2 choices. I think they went pretty well. I'm optimistic.

Allymd - your exam is Tuesday, right? Good luck as you enter the final mile. You will be fine. Keep your eye on the prize.

Hgheith - how are those twins coming along?

Allymd: Good luck!!!!

Sandra: Welcome. I think your question is a little too long to answer here. The process is a bit complicated, since you have to work through ECFMG, ERAS and NRMP all at the same time. There are timelines involved as well. Your best bet is to start at ECFMG.org and start looking for information. In a nutshell, you have to complete an application online through ERAS; that goes to all of the programs you apply to. The programs that like you invite you to interview. After the interview, you compile a list of programs in order of preference, and the programs do the same. Everything gets piled into a big computer at NRMP and, in March, they tell you if you matched. You really have to study the specifics to understand the process. Its not as bad as it sounds. Where along the process are you? Have you completed your steps already?

hi chiqui,

thanks for replying smiling face

im done with step1 n cs. taking ck in feb. infact, i've got a vague idea of the process.. i was looking for the specifics..i've no friends to help me out with this nor is my hubby a doc.. so am i bit muddled about the working of the entire process...u know, the eras application, post application followups with emails n phone calls, pre-match, post match scramble, the formalities after u get selected...is there any site which offers specific details...or..i would be grateful if u or anyone whoz reading this could give me a concise narration of things that u did..starting from the eras applicationsmiling face

thanks in advance

hi chiqui,

thanks for the link..lemme have a thorough reading of the entire material..a couple of doubts..

1. is it mandatory to send the MSPE. i dont have one along with me. is it ok if i state that i cant obtain it in the CAF? i have a letter from the dean though. but it doesnot show performance evaluation. its just a letter from the dean stating that i graduated from that medical school and stuff.

2. i heard that its necessary to hire a immigration lawyer for visa issues. is that true? im already in the US on an L2 visa which i should be converting to J1 or H1.

and yea, its my kido sandra in the avatar smiling face

pardon my ignorance..what does mucha locha mean?wink
