Thank you for your time, DR. Fischer.

Step 1/ Step 2CK scores in 70s (1st attempts), ICU/ER RN. Business degree from US. Green Card holder, published posters in the US.

Is RN considered a valuable US experience?

How can I improve my chances to get in IM besides taking Step 3?

Vlad.

Dear Dr. Fischer,
Namaste..

For those of us who have low scores w/ or w/o attempts, should we completely give up hope of ever being accepted into an IM program? There is so much competition now, with so many candidates scoring in the 90's, should the rest of us give up? Will high scorers make better doctors than the rest of us??

Thanks a lot Dr. Fischer for answering our Q's here.

I still have one Q sir:

There is a program which offers prematch and I absolutley want to be in their program coz of geographic location and hubby's job. They have given prematches to candidates in previous years. What if by the end of the interview they dont offer me one..how can I approach the topic and convey to them that I would like to be considered for a prematch ?

Regards and really appreciate the time and effort you put in, to guide us.

Hello Dr. Fischer,

First of all, I would like to thank you for spending your valuable time in answering to our questions. I have a very important question,

Can we break the pre match residency contract? This is to get in to another better program which offered me pre match after I accepted pre match at the current program. How can I cancel the pre match contract? What are the consequences and how should I go about it? I request you to apprise me of all the possible ways to do it,

Thank you very much,
Warm Regards!

Dear Dr. Fisher,

My wife is an IMG and I am her servant.

Today, She had an interview in an hospital close to where you work in Brooklyn. As she saw the signs of your hospital along the way, she pointed out to the sign and said to me "This is where the funny man (you) works".

She loves you like thousand others who are lucky to attend your lectures or watch your videos. For significant others like myself who got acquinted to you thru our spouses...we love you too...

Thanks for being an inspiration to desperate IMG souls...

Dear Dr. Fischer,

Namaste!

Thank you for providing invaluable insights to our various dilemmas and problems. I had a question related to the interview process. I have an attempt on step 2 cs, all my other scores are in first attempt and in 90s. My question to you is....if not asked about my step 2 cs attempt, is it wise and is it in my interest to broach the topic myself?
Your input would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Dr. Fischer, I have not had good luck when it comes to my board exams....i failed Step 1 the first time then passed on 2nd attempt with 78, and I have failed step 2 CK twice and i'm going for a third time within the next few months. I passed CS on the first try. I have already sent applications to ERAS. Since things seem to depend quite heavily on board scores, what do you think my chances are at matching in IM for 2008? Is there anything I can do to help my application? In general, what should i do? I know that my board scores are probably going to hinder me, but I have to try and believe that there is some hope! Please reply back. Thanks.

[quote=Conrad Fischer]Buenas Dias!! Good Day!! and relief of Anxiety to you all

1. Older graduates are considered less desireable by SOME because people are felt to be set intheir ways, and cannot be easily changed. There are a few places, however, that consider it an advantage, but they are fewer

Dear Dr Fisher,

I wasn´t lucky enough to attend your lectures in California last year but I hope you will be for step 3 next year.....

Im an old graduate and it sounds really funny to say it at loud because Im not old at all!!!. Im 30 years old , graduated in 1999, came to this country 2 years ago to pursuit my dream
My credential: step 1 mid 80´s Step 2 CK in the 90´s CS Clear (all in first attempt), USCE, LORs from US Docs ,Green card , and fluent in Spanish.
I´m a very positive person and I never let people to discourage me about getting a residency position because of my graduation year but after live it on my own skin I feel so sad and depressed, so far I have 2 IV of 75 applications
I have so much to give....... I came to this country with my heart open, and I don`t think Im set on my own ways. My heart and my mind are open to listen, to watch and to learn but the PD can´t see that on my application......Do I have chance to match with only 2 IVs?

Thanks in advance for your time,
con cariño...........

Dr. Fischer;

I have 18 months experience as RN in new york and a lot of people are telling me that I should not mention this when applying for residency. They think that it would give a bad impression and/or a negative feedback. What do you think?????

  #140

Dr. Fischer

what is ur opinion regarding work experience in india???? i am finding it very difficult to get USCE...

What are my chances of getting into a good residency programme(fellowship opportunities) with out USCE

(USCE- US Clinical Experience)

observership in us or clinical work/practice in INDIA????

best wishes

Dear Dr. Fischer

You might not have come across such a candidate before for sure

An Old IMG with
- 1/2CK scores 88/78 + Failed first attempt at CSshaking head
- Graduation in the year 2000
- No USCE yet
- Teaching experience for 2.5 years in china
- IM observership in china (2 strong LORs from Chinese Drs having US work experience)
- a strong desire to do post-graduation in IMsad
- a strong desire to make it in 2009 match
- a depressed state of mind sadsadsad

Could you suggest something to me, please!!!!!
Can a great Step 3 score help me in any way?

I would rather put up the same lines as mentioned by you before
“I did not do as well as I would have liked. I worked hard, but I should have worked harder. I can do better”nodnodnod

Thank you SIRsmiling face

Dear Dr. Fischer,

I am your biggest fan ever! SERIOUSLY!!! I wish you had more lectures on video/audio.. I have listened to you religiously... You are the man!

On a serious note, I would like to share with you an experience that I had during an interview if you have time.

I had gotten an invite to a hospital in NJ. On interview day, there were 8 of us or so. Listening and talking with the other applicants, I soon learned that they had basically 99/99/CS pass and some had prior experience as physicians... I couldn't understand why they had choosen me to interview...my credentials 80/90/CS pass

The interview day started with a tour of the hospital, breakfast comprised of bagels and OJ then interview with an attending...

During the interview, it began wonderfully... THEN he saw my scores and from then on, I could tell his mood had changed.

At the end of the day, we were led to a conference room where we were told to evaluate our day. After giving our evals, the secretary then announced that she would be calling out names and for those people to stay so the PD could meet them and for the rest of us to leave.

I was in total shock.

I was under the impression that if you received an invite from them that you were basically on the same level as everyone else. I can't understand why this program had evaluated the applicants on interview day.

The most upsetting thing was, I had flew there, paid hotel and turned down other invites.

Is this a common screening from programs???
Am I wrong to assume that if I got an invite that I am competitive for this program?

I have three more interviews to go and am a bit reluctant to go because all three will require air tickets (money out of my pocket)...

I hope you can answer.

I realize that I was not competitive enough for the program. I just wished that if they had felt that before hand, that they should not have invited me as I spent alot of money and rejected another for the spot.

If you don't, I still think you are awesome and should release some more videos/audios or something... I enjoy learning from you, I'm sure even your own mother enjoys learning from you!! hahahaha.. get it???

  #146

Hello Dr. Fischer,
Have been going through all your posts on this forum so far, and found them really helpful.
I would really appreciate if you could give me your candid opinion on this one.

My fiance and I are seriously considering going in for couple's match.
I have scores in mid-90s and have passed step3 as well.
He has a 93 on Step1 and 84 on CK.
We have interviewed at 6 places each, out of which 4 are common to us.
All are categorical IM positions.

With this background, is it a reasonable decision to go ahead and apply as a couple?shaking head

Thanks in advance.

Warm regards.smiling face

Dear Dr. Fischer,

the residency program i matched to just sent me an email saying the
dean's letter was a must for its GME office to proceed with my criminal
background check.

Is dean's letter from my medical school required to start residency? I
thought the ECFMG provided a substition if i did not have a dean's
letter from my medical school.

thank you so much.

  #149

Dear Dr. Fischer

I was wondering in a Step 3 score of 81/199 is good enough. and should I post it in my AAMC CV? My other cred. are:

step 1 : 95/228
Step 2 CK: 87/215
CS passed
All passed on 1st attempt.

USCE: 2months observer + 4 months externship

Thank you for all your help ans support.

Syrian IMG,
SHAHINOVE

I think Dr. Fischer stopped responding to these questions.

Why do people keep posting questions on a dead thread?
