Hey Cutestory. I'd be interested to read your rank order list.

My top 3 are:
1 Maryland
2 UIC
3 MUSC

I interviewed at 11 programs.

I remember reading that you interviewed at U Minnesota. I also interviewed there but didn't rank the program because of how badly organized the interview was. I'd be interested to read what you thought of your interview experience and the program overall.

jok: I am jbpruitt in studentdoctor. Here are my top 3 choices:

1. Medical College of Wisconsin
2. University of Wisconsin
3. University of Minnesota

I was really tempted to put Minnesota as my nuber 1. Many people didn't like the interview, but I thought it was perfect. I met the chair and two other faculty members. All of the residents I met were friendly and down to earth. Location is also very imortant to me and I would rather be around family then train at a top notch program. Ultimately, it really depends on how hard you work during residency. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming match.

Hi Cutestory,

I certainly understand your desire to be close to family during residency. This has been one of the principle factors for me in ranking programs as well.

Did you end up interviewing at the U. Maryland? If so, did you hear back from them prior to the match? I received a phone call from a U. Maryland resident who told me that I had been short listed for a spot in the match. However, I'm wondering how many other candidates were also called.

  #181

jok: No, I ended up cancelling my interview at U. of Maryland. That's a pretty good sign if they called you though. No worries.

ustmd2006, what's up?

hi jok and cutestory! i'm glad there's been some activity in our thread!

i'm hesitant to post my rol...not until after the results anyway...for some reason, i feel like i'd be jinxing myself...unfounded anxiety i know, but still...

i agree with you guys that location is real important...my number one is number one since it's the closest to family...well, not only that, i really felt that out of my very few interviews, that's where i would fit in best and where i would get the best training...

how have you guys been coping up with the stress of waiting? i've been busy doing this and that...but my anxiety appears in my dreams in the form of nightmares about not matching and scrambling...lol!!!

let's keep our thread alive to help the next batch...hopefully we'll all have great news in the next couple of weeks!

good luck!

I've been studying for Step 3 (even more stressful then the match!) which I'm scheduled to take on April 8,9th. It's a tough exam to study for, considering I just graduated medical school. Better now then in path training though.

  #186

good idea cutestory! i tried to do that after my interviews...but the anxiety for the match was too much! i couldn't concentrate! hehe...so i just decided to put it off until after match week. although your plan is the same as mine...take it before pathology residency starts! i plan on taking step 3 in may! good luck!

  #187

Hi Guys: I'm also planning to take Step 3 before starting residency. I just started studying for Step 3 a few days ago and I plan to take the exam in June. I agree that Step 3 is hard to study for.

Ustmd: I was really stressed out about the match before the ROL submission deadline, I was constantly checking my ROL and rearranging some of my lower choices. I ended up going to the gym nearly every day just to take my mind of the match. However, now I feel pretty comfortable about things and I've been able to focus on studying. I hope that you find some peace of mind.

Cutestory: How long did it take from when you applied for Step 3 until you got a scheduling permit? Also, why did you choose MCW over the University of Wisconsin? I didn't interview at either place but I've heard that University of Wisconsin is a great program.

  #188

U of Wisconsin is great program. However, I grew up in Madison and moving back home wouldn't be as exciting. Milwaukee is a cool city and MCW is changing their signout from general to subspecialty (which I prefer). I also have many family members living in Milwaukee, including a brother.

In terms of my permit it took 10 days from when I sent in the application to receiving it online. Very quick. Hope this helps.

Ustmd2006: what have you been doing to deal with the stress?

  #189

jok, thanks for the well wishes...i've been doing better since that nightmare...hehe...

cutestory, i've been keeping busy helping out at my uncle's clinic. he has his own practice (family med) and i've been going in and acting as a secretary...answering calls, scheduling patients, taking vitals, doing a few labs (urinalyses, rapid strep tests, etc.)...also been his creative consultant (hehe)...designing some flyers and brochures to promote the practice...aside from that, my bro is here with my very cute niece and nephew...playing with them is enough to take my mind off things! other than that, i've been working out a lot like jok!

less than two weeks to go! if i can just get through the 17th i'm fine...where i match isn't as important...although if i get my number one, that will be icing on the cake! gotta get that cake first!!!

good night all! grin
