I am a 2005 IMG have scores 90/75/passed/Step 3 in NOV. US citizen. Work in a lab as a lab supervisor. Have 9 months experience in a pathology lab. Do PCR on patients samples and have experience in grossing of pathology specimens. I have applied in Pathology in 45 programs. What are my chances? Any input or suggestions will be appreciated,

not as competitive as you might think...

that 466 number was for all applicants. it was 90.8% filled last year, with 513 positions offered, 296 went to US students, which is only 57.7% US filled. still a buyers market.

thanks brainlights! sorry i missed the 2nd page and didn't see your greeting.

it is still very early, so i hope no one is having a panic attack...we have to be patient.

usmleguy, hmmm...as you probably know, there are so many factors that programs look into...not just grades, as is so often emphasized in these forums...you have several plus points, most especially your path experience...if i were a pd, i'd invite you for an interview.

c5a, thanks for putting things into perspective.

may this coming week bring great news for us all! grin

how's everyone doing? grin

Hi bbh

I am of similar background. 1997 MD, 2003 PhD, postdoc since then. US PR. 90/87/CS results pending. I wonder if you mind sharing which programs have you applied to? Obviously you've done some research as to (old)-IMG-friendly programs!! Thanks a lot!

  #33

Hi guys,

nice to see your little patho group. it is good to have company on this long journey. Good luck!

Hi C5a. 296 were US seniors. If you count in the US MD, US OD, fifth pathway. Only 75 went to real IMGs.

BTW, I just got rejection from Cornell yesterday.

cluytens, I am going to send my list to your mail box.

Your name sounds familiar to me. Maybe from usmleforum.........

hi got my first interview in uni of tenessee hoping to get some more i think many programs will consider applications after cs result as in my case.good luck to all.

  #41

amygdalaa, the one in the other forum is good...but the one on this one isn't bad either...i may have sent you a private message before when i found out that you applied to path and are an img (i hope i'm remembering this right) on studentdoctor...just recently joined usmleforum.

churgstrauss, congratulations!!! i think you're right about the cs result...i'm also rationalizing my lack of response with the fact that that test result is keeping my application from being complete...also wondering what happened to my 3rd lor...that was sent a while back and ecfmg hasn't even certified it on oasis as received...arg!

another quiet day for me...seems that more and more programs are giving out invites though (on another forum)...but then again, it's the same people who are getting them, so they must be stellar candidates!

good night everyone!

  #42

Cong! Amygdalaa!

  #43

quiet so far...but it's early in the day...last friday brought a nice surprise...hopefully this friday will too...for all of us!

anyway, finally settled on a date for bu...nov. 7th...i was putting off scheduling it just in case i got offers from other programs near there...but i freaked out when someone said that you should schedule it within 2 days of the invite!

well, how's everyone doing?

  #44

Congrats us2md!
Guys I have a question.... I recently applied to pathology programs, though I have a few pubs and research experience in USA, I have no Path Lors. I mean all my US lors are either int med or Rehab medicine since I worked in these 2 deptt. What do u say??
my stats are
2006 graduate/step1 92/step2CK 87/Need visa/CS passed. Us Lors but no path Lor. Only thing which is inclined towards pathology in my application is distinction in pathology in My medical school.

Need advice.... is it wise to apply and put money in path applications or shall I go the conventional way for INT med. Though I am quite interested in pathology but no past Observerships/and no LOrs are stopping me to apply...
any opinions??

  #45

it seems to me that you have a genuine interest in path...in which case, i say go for it. if you want to play it safe, put in a couple of im programs. i don't know how important path lors are, but i would assume it would be best to have at least one since a pathologist would be in the best position to say whether or not you would make a good pathologist...aside from that, it looks like you have solid credentials...go with your gut and what your heart says! good luck! smiling face

  #46

hey thanks ustmd... I am truly encouraged..
This is a nice place for pathology aspirants... I am applyong today, will keep each other updated.. If you find time do answer my questions on the thread "questions from a newbie"

Best of luck to us all.

yet another quiet day...i am getting more and more anxious though since my cs results will come out soon (oct. 10th is the start of the score report period---it BETTER be reported on that day since i took the darn thing on july 31st!---and i'm PRAYING that it's a PASS!!!)...also, my last LOR was sent like 2 weeks ago and still it isn't noted on oasis as "received"...arg!

anyway, be patient everyone (i should listen to myself!)...even though it's october, it's still EARLY!

how has everyone been distracting themselves?
