i failed with 183/74,i did uw, 59%,and kaplan notes with first aid, usmle cd,, 84 %one week bfr exam,, couldnt take nbme,,
i feel sorry fr that ,, now what to do,,

dont worry ....retry and never give up...just remember that this is your career and purely your decision...dont let the boards screw yr career...if u have kids u truly must e having a green card/citizenship..use it for yr good and never stop trying

first of all don't loose hope there is always a solution what realey matters is your determination.I know how it feels because you and me have something in common,i am IMG,2kids, failed step 1 a year a go.our only difference is at this time i am ready to face the beast again with all my pawer and energy.the fact that you failed has a positive side too because you know already what to study on what to focus and what your weaknesses are.the second and most important of all is it is better to fail rather than scoring low grade because once you pass you can not retake the test to improve your point .Believe me i am not rationalizing and i am not trying to fool you.So try to work on your weakness , start your study without wasting your time because you have come a long way what is remaining is so little.

as i said i am preparing 4 step 1 and am going to take it in 2 months time and this is my second attempt.As i said i learned alot from the way i prepared and the type of question i expcted and what i found on the real exam. Concerning my first prepaation since i am old IMG it took me some time to make adjustments in my study habits to programme my self like i was doing when i was in medical school.then
my big mistake was i didn't know that this web site existed and i didn't know about others exam experiance except some friends who took the exam and shaired their expriance.My study was based on text books like Biochem Champe , anatomy atlas, OLD nms books
red them from cover to cover .then at the end of my preparation i was to find Kaplan books which i did not read them well i red First AID 2 times
then i did KAPLAN Q BANK 3 months i was scoring above 85.This was my preparation.My exam expriance i had many molecular biology questions even embriology was immunology based many city scans
on cerebral arteries and so on.When i finished the exam even before
getting my scores i knew that i failed but i was in denial and i did't start to study again until i got my score it was 72. then i started the long Journy again this time a started to use the internet and came across this site i red about many exam expriances.when i study biochem metabolic pathways related disease process,pathology trying to know what you see microscopically even though you dont identify the microscopic appearance on slids if you knowthe finding you are able to answer the questions .molecucular biology i am trying to know about mutation and diseases that can happen or viceversa.Pharma autonomic drugs very well. in general i understood that i have to relate basic science to real world meaning consider you are treating a patient it is not about classification and numbering but understanding what? why?how and come up with a solution.This is the change i made more or less.i dont know weather i answered yuur question or not.

Somi, there are lots of parents here, many have prep journals where they go into details about studying and caring for family, perhaps you could start a journal for your prep? Good luck with your steps!

HOW I AM DOING IT my kids are 12 and 9 a girl and a boy my hasband very supportive. he works and i stay home. even though a am staying home i am the one who is taking care of every thing in the house and walking the kids to school.I study during the day while the kids are at school in between cooking and cleaning.i usually cook during weekends while the kids and my hasband are home and keep it in the deep freezer so that during the week days i wont spend time in cooking .I do my laundary also saturday or sunday if i have time in between i practice Questions.Some times i study early morning like from 4:00-6:00AM,i do this if i have important up coming activity the next day and i can't study the next day . many times i stay longer before going to bed if i haven't done what i planned to do during the day.Before hand set a certain amount of time you can study each day
and plan what you should cover.The amount of time and during which time of the day you should study depends on the age of your kids and what other thaings you do during the day.Once you set a goal try to stick to it .

i found it very encouraging,,i will plan like this,as my kids are younger than you,one school going and one is abt one yr old,,so will have to manage with both kids timing,cooking is time consuming,will manage inshallha,,i got yur email, thanks fr phone number, i will call soon,

Hello,im new to this site.I just got my score last night,and yup,i failed.first time to fail in an exam. im willing to try again. but do you know if its still possible to get into residencies after taking step 1 twice?im being optimistic-lets say i get a high score on my second attempt,how are these scores reported to residency programs?will it really specify that step 1 was taken twice?i read one forum where they said, all that will be reported to the programs is PASS and the score.is that true?will the 1st failed attempt NOT be seen on your record? please advice me.
