what is the treatment for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ?

  #2

Hmm, I have no clue, however I'll take a wild guess. From what I know, in this condition, there is a diastolic problem. I mean, atria/ventricles can't relax 100%, not allowing the ventricles to fill properly. So, we should give the pt something to counteract this. Maybe a vasodilator that will decrease TPR, such as Hydralazine. How about Verapamil??? Since it will work directly into the heart?? :?

reason for using the B blockers :
As they will decrease the cardiac contractility and heart rate and increasing left ventricular volume would improve the pt. clinically .Reason for that is that in HOCM , there is obstruction to blood flow due to ant. leaflet of mitral valve being drawn towards the intreventricular septum so by increasing the blood would dec. that .
