if u dont have one year medical experience in us just dont apply only to anaesthesia

try also to apply for transitional year or pgy1 internal medicine or surgery so if u dont matched this year u will stand better chance in the next year match

so this i think a reasonable approach

say u r applying for 100 program

50 should be anaesth pgy1

25 should be transitional year or internal medicine or surgery preliminary

25 anaesth pgy2 - if u dont hold any us experience better to reserve this 25% to the two previous choices-

i know someone she did residency of anesthesia in home country and then 1 month observerhsip with 99 score on both steps..got residency of anesthesia on first choice.

anesthesia residency from India plus 99 scores on step1 ans step2 and first attempts.

which program she matched too?!!! which visa status j1 or h1b?

also it is becoming tougher every year ..... american association of anaesthesia says that the largest increase in no of anaes applicants in history was reported in last year match

what you say is a very reasonable approach... Hope we all make it, statistically only <50% of independant applicants matched into anesthesia...
Bottom line is hard but not impossible! confused
