DNA of both parents of a child with Down's has been studied. A cloned DNA when used as a probe reveals a RFLP in the region adjacent to the centromere of chromosome 21. Four haplotypes exist. A B C D. Genotype of father is AC Mother BD and that of child is ABC. Non juntion most likey occured in.

1.child during the first mitotic division.
2. father during meiosis 1
3. father during meiosis 11
4. mother during meiosis 1
5. mother during meiosis 11

I know the answer, I want to know how we come to that conclusion. Thanks for your help.

2. right?

its obviously the father, since 2 chromosomes of different RFLP types are from the father.

In order to inherit 2 different RFLP types, there should be non disjunction during meiosis I. Whereas in meiosis II, either AA or CC is inherited.
