Almost all metro-detroit programs are very IMG friendly, even more friendly than NY and NJ. Henry Ford hospital, DMC, Providence St.John, Oakwood, St. Joseph Pontiac They have over half IMGs every year. Surprisingly, for the past two years they had a lot openings that filled by scrambles. Most metro-detroit programs are hungry for residents, and will sponsor working visa. About graduation year, some of them would take a good look into your profile as long as you are strong in other criterias, even you might be an old graduate. If you are randomly choosing some programs, then Metro-Detroit and Michigan programs are a must. Definitely will give you more opportunities than elsewhere. Good luck to everyone.

Majority residents live in suburb areas that within 15-35 mins driving distance. Not very bad at all. The housing in suburb area is very affordable, about 400 for one bedroom apartment and around 700 for two bedroom apartment.

Any foreigner is considered a white pig who deserves bullet or a knife blade... Cars with armored windshields are extremely popular... This explains why AMGs do not go there...

To be honest, I did not get a clear understanding of what you are asking about... I am lucky I haven't had this experience personally... But I am in the US and those who live in NY, for instance, know what the Harlem (either, Black or Hispanic) is, and why they would not go there on their will... My explanation is based on the stories I have heard from my friends who used to live there and who have friends/relatives in Detroit area... I am sorry I do not have enough evidence to support my words, but why wouldn't you all watch this: http://vidmax.com/index.php/videos/view/2464 Typical news from the streets of Detroit... Sorry guys, I cannot be postive about this place... And, as your colleague, do advise to to think twice before going there...

I went to Downtown for school for years, and walked in campus quite often. there are many foreign graduate students who even live in the campus dorms. Safety issue is not as bad as people would think, at least won't be worse than Bronx NY.

This person seems to be advertising for these programs. Only a few IMGs were offered residencey last year at DMC last year. Of course DMC used to be an IMG friendly program, but the administration now again taking AMGs to take DMC to better ranking. Last year there was problem between DMC and Wayne State, so few AMGs applied. Now this affiliation problem has been resolved for three years ( one year passed already), so be careful in your choice.......Henry Ford dont offer H 1 now. Further if you google, you will see that Detroit is number 1 in crime rate statisitics in the USA and in Detroit this area of DMC is number 1 in crime. I am a student here so I am presenting the realistic picture here. Program used to be IMG friendly but no state can be as friendly as NY and NJ.

I am from the Deroit area .. born and raised in one of the suburbs .. if u live in the ghetto anywhere in the US u will be seen as an intruder .. its not specific to detroit .. also, y would u live in the ghetto when u're making 45K a year ??henry ford, wayne state are 30-35 minutes away from the suburbs and living there isnt bad at all .. if u get into U of M then ann arbor is one of the nicest places to live in but its hard to get into U of M in the first place .. oakwood is in dearborn which is majority foreigners so not many problems there ... dont know much about lansing (MSU) ... if u dont have a visa then ur better off not applying to detroit .. henry ford doesnt sponsor any visas for IM, FM .. wayne state is in the ghetto and if u get parking away from the hospital then it'll be a treat to walk to the lot at night ... U of M doesnt care much about IMGs either .. oakwood altho not at the same level as the other three still doesnt sponsor visas of any kind .. atleast not for IM .. if u have GC or are a citizen then go ahead and apply otherwise u're better off going for programs in NY or NJ .. again, if u live in the ghetto anywhere u're asking for trouble !! whether be it east LA, harlem, detroit, chicago, St.Louis, Cleveland ....
