I guess there r still hopes if you get above 90 in both of your steps next time. May be some expert persons like bbb can answer your question more correctly than I. How was your prep? I think first you should discover your weak points, and then have a realistic assessment of yourself to know if hopefully you can pass it this time. I think it is possible. What do you think shouldn't do in your prep? What do you think caused you not to pass?( if you don't mind)

First of all, do you want to get residency in US? If yes..there is a lot you can do to over come the set back of one failed step. Question is are u ready to go all the way. Failures will keep happening. It is what you do about them, is what really matters. I'm sure you are going through hell right now. I have failed step one and done really badly on step 2. But giving up is not an option for me. I am retaking step one. I will do what ever it takes to make sure I get a residency. I believe there is a spot for each determined and willing person. I'll say don't give up. But really the answers have to come from you. Good luck in what ever u decide.

Granuloma, don't give up. Relax. Forget your failed step 1, just like nothing happened. Part of reasons was it was bad luck b/c ur NBME 3 was 500 and UW 52%, and part of reasons maybe you did not grab the basic knowledge and concepts very firmly, which might make you nervous and do poorly in real test. I am sure you will get over 90 next time. Good luck

I echo the other sentiments here, Granuloma. Best to put it past you, take a small break, then dive back in, using your score report as a guide of what to focus on when you start your studies back up. You did well on the practices and UW, something tells me you are going to kick the crap out of it next time with a great score. Good luck!

Hi granuloma, iam sorry to hear ----. But u r doing correct thing by trying to find out what went wrong and want to make correction. But i want to ask u ur nbme score of 500 is really good its like they r prediccting close to 90 % in your nbme but r u sure u did nbme o in timed mode and online .Thats amazing My only advice will be to know first aid and usmelworld cold if u r not huge books retainer because theses 2 FA and usmleworld can give u a descend score in 80s .i beleive this Well good luck with your endeavors take a few days break and then bounce back to books God bless

this should be read by everyone, not just those trying to figure out whether to stay on in the race. well said, medoc!! hey, granuloma. your other numbers seem great like your gre, nbme, uw. obviously you did do something right. but, i feel something went wrong on the exam day. at least the job at hand is not that massive [as compared to if you went into the exam unprepared, and poor prognostic scores]. you basically have to continue studying and ensure that this time, d-day goes smooth and you get a score you deserve. i wish you well.

hey granuloma i would like u to refer to this excellent thread by askdoc .. on the support forum .. http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/34492 i really found it very helpful in assessing myself ...and pls don't underestimate your past achievements over one failure..your scores clearly reflect that u have more then what it takes to crack this exam....take it as a challenge and change your strategy a bit after understanding what went wrong......i'm sure u'll excell.

hey granuloma, did you do any other NBME (other than NBME 3). 500 is an awesome score. What were your feeling after you were done with STEP 1. Did you feel that you failed it and was your test evenly distributed or comparatively hard (with lots of molecular, neuro and genetics). please reply asap...i am getting very anxious and stressed after reading your post. Hope to hear from you soon.

U better open up those books now and see what u didn't before and believe me there'll be plenty everytime u reopen them! My suggestion spend a day reading analysing ASKDOC's sticky and then ur score report open books based on that....... read what u scored less in first and from something more detailed. Use google too. And soon u'll be back in the game to be a winner!!!!!!!!! Good luck! Btw I'm retaking to and trying my best to beat the blah out of everything so I can beat the blah out of them! And loving every moment of it! Also, where there's hope there's always a way!
