To purelife2

I do not mean to bait other people out. I really mean to share the info with every one else at the very begining. But after I read the post on usmleforum some guys attacking chinese applicants, I thought I'd better shut up my mouth.

The programs did send out the IV invitations. If you want know the number, I can tell you, so far I got 8 IVs. But don't be mad at me. If any one here think I am show-off, I will keep my mouth shut-up again.

congrats everyone! you know, i was really happy to have discovered this forum because i thought this was the place where img applicants for neuro post...so i hope we can keep it going.
i swear i have zero interviews right now (hopefully not anymore tomorrow!) ...if i had one, i would be screaming it all over the place...after I jump up and down of course...
good luck everyone!

add...to the worried poster who felt like crying: you're not alone. I dont have one at all, even for prelims. I am getting nervous/scared/anxious/depressed. I'm doing my best to keep the hope alive...I just need *one*...

Hi honeysuckle

I have noticed that you have only apply 25 programs, that is way too less. Do your homework to apply as much of programs as you can. Wish you good luck!smiling face

If u're AMG and have crappy scores then your research and electives might help alot but IMG with crappy scores ... no matter what u've done they might never look at your app !!

hi acne,

thanks...im begininning to think you are right...but that's almost 500 USD already with the prelims. I know it is an investment...but im expecting a lot of expenditure when we travel for the interviews...provided we get called to an interview, of course....ugh! this is just turning out to be more expensive than i thought...and i have been soooo out-of-work...haha

yes, neuro is pretty tough this year...my friend last year with almost the same stats as me--he applied to 26 programs and got 5 interviews around this time!

any thoughts on creighton? or u wisconsin? that's the program that i see giving out invites to IMGs. i was hoping to stay in the northeast though because i have family here...oh well...cant be an IMG and a choosy applicant in neurology...harumpfh!

good luck to you too...

  #87

I got a reply from UW Madison ... reviewing apps ... y not apply to categorical neuro and u'll save money on the prelim programs ...

I applied to Categ neuro only, or the adv neuro program that promised a PGY1 in their own institution if you match with them. that makes it only 10 program among which ut southwestern has already sent rejection. My chances of getting categ neuro is next to nil but I wanted to know is it possible if i start IM categ and then apply for advanc neuro next year?

  #89

all you need before neuro is a year with 6 months of medicine ... some require 8 months .. if u get categorical medicine then technically it should fulfill that requirement ... transitional year also counts for some places cuz u end up getting between 6-8 months of medicine if u include the electives as well ... the problem with most advanced programs that facilitate PGY-1 med at their hospital is that u have to meet the requirements of the medicine folks and most of the times they have higher/harder requirements than the neuro folks so not that easy to get in ... also, remember that this is still only september and there ,hopefully will be more interviews sent out in october after the 'first wave' i guess

good luck to all

fingers back to being crossed now that im done typing ...

smiling face

Acne, Congrats for your INV calls. Do you please disclosing the places from where you got an INV call????

To honeysuckle

I spend around 2500$ just for application. I prepared another 10,000$ for traveling etc. It is money game. If you get into residency one year earlier, you will earn at least 100,000$ one year earlier.

UW did not give me IV. I did not apply the other one, I only apply neuro program having >=3 residents/year. Because I like bigger program instead of small one. There is a bounch of program like FMGs, you need to look at the website one by one.

  #92

To Dendrite

I only applied university-based/affiliated programs with at least 3 residents per year. So you guess. grin

  #93

sorry waitingforiv, I thought you got your first IV from University of Indiana. i didn't mean to be a jerk to congrate on your first rejection.

  #94

LOL ALS......well for all its worth the congratulations is accepted....at least I got SOMETHING....lol.....nod....dont worry about these niceties....at this point I am so frustrated and broken with frayed nerves that very little fazes me. Hell you could insult me and my whole family yet not offend me if you add the words "you have an IV"....at the end....grin....seriously though dont do it!.....sorry for rambling but a lil bit o humor always calms me.

So back to checking ERAS for the 43,899 th time......

Hahaha...I think we're all going through very stressful times indeed! Hahaha!
Acne, wow! Can I marry you??? Hahaha..If I spent 2500 USD on applications, I wont have any money to attend the interviews I will be getting! Well, actually I would, but I don't think my family will appreciate eating cornbread... How can you have ten thousand dollars out of med school?! Did I really spend that much on food and clothes? Hahaha...
I am being stingy here...forgive me...
WaitingforIV...hahaha...I have to literally stop myself from opening my computer...
Doc...yep...tried to apply to the integrated programs too, but not that many, and the spots are usually fewer. And I did do the webbies one by one, eliminated whatever needs USCE or cannot sponsor visa...I still have some on my list, but Im waiting to see if I should blow money again...I dont want to anymore really...But then again, who does right?
Ok, I am going out...and I am going to see that there is life beyond ERAS...

  #96

oh sarika, no to dissuade you from applying to IM categ (especially becasue it is much, much, MUCH easier to match there than prelims), but you will have to worry about getting honorable dismissal from a categ program i think. That was one of my thoughts...but don't quote me on this one...ask for more reliable sources...

whoops...typos galore...sorry...

  #99

You are right honeysuckle that will be one major problem.
What do you think about prelim surgery? Is it easier to get and what are the options afterwards if someone doesn't want to persue surgery?

  #100
