HighHopes, Good luck in your search for the prelim spot. Since you can probably guess where you are heading for PGY2, you should try and contact the PD there to help you out. Also remember DAY 2 (Wednesday) is also a very good day to scramble. Most of the programs answer their phones and access their fax/emails. So try hard and good luck.

Good luck, highHope! It is interesting to see the unfilled spots in Neurology. Wonder if some programs will change their strategies next year...

@ ALS Not they will not. They prefer keeping positions empty rather than hiring IMGs.....thats the way it goes. Also most times those statistics are bogus. They show that the positions are empty but actually they are kept for last minute favors for fellow PDs and Deans for the errant AMGs who either wake up late or dont match for some unknown reason. So dont feel that things are gonna change if positions go wanting. :-)

Congratulation to all. I think this forum is an excellent one. Now the match results are found out. I suggest to put following information, which should be very useful for next year Neurology residency applicants. My application information: Step1 99/Step2CK 99/Step2CS pass/Step3 88 (all frist attempt)/1998 graduation/strong research background; applied to 61 Neurology programs; get 12 interview offers including 2 top 10 Neurology programs; matched with my first choice (SUNY at Buffalo, categorical, H1 visa).

Hi, chaitu1981, before you talk about next year application, I think you still have chance for this year. By my knowledge, not all advanced positions are filled during scramble. You can still try to look for Neurology or other specialty advanced position after scramble. But you may pay application fee. In addition, it is said that it is possible that during the first year you may transfer from preliminary IM to categorical IM if the program like you. I wish you best luck.

chaitu--yes you can do categorical IM if your prelim program allows it, you may shift to others as well. neuro loses many candidates this way which explains vacant PGY2 spots sprawling up. basically, candidates have until january of the year they start in neurology to commit to neurology. That is, they can break the match if they switch to another specialty. Still easier said than done.... ckevin--both my prelim and advance program contacted me by email. my friends received emails too, some of them phone calls. it's basically congratulations and we'll be sending letters of appointment. sorry i don't want to post where i'll end up in because it's a very small program and i prefer anonymity on the net. i will be pm-ing 99/95/pass/92 no usce's/no phds/needs visa/applied to 20+ programs (i don't recommend this!)

honeysuckle, I am sure there is no small program in neurology. anonymity online however is understandable.

by "very small"---i meant the number of residents, not the quality of the program or anything like that. i actually LIKE the program i matched in. it would just be so easy to trace me if i posted where i matched here, and if that happened, well...i wouldn't be able to give my brutally frank thoughts now, could I? nah, just call me paranoid for stalkers... chaitu--sunmatch posted it i think. good luck, paulo coelho says if you REALLY want something, the universe will conspire
