hi guys! congrats doc! i think sometimes life has a way of steering us towards the right direction...and I believe a prematch offer is one of them. definitely a bird in the hand! when everything is sealed and smoothened, PM me where you end up in Good luck! indeed, the rest of us have to endure... i also have problems with my prelim posts. Two of my neuro applications asked me to enumerate my prelim interviews, so that scares me that they wont rank me high enough because i only have a little. but there is still the hope...and scramble! good luck to us all!

Hi, guys, I think everyone is now working on the rank list and also wonder how many programs will seriously consider us. Does anyone receive any e-mail or letter from the Neurology programs recently showing their interests to you? I mean they send to you first, not the reply to your follow-up mail. I didn't get any such mail from the programs except several very nice replies to my e-mails. I know many IM and FM programs contact the applicants first before the final rank date if they are really interested in them and will rank them highly. I wonder whether this is also a routine for Neurology programs. Let us share the experience and any other useful information about the hint that a Neurology progarm may rank us highly. I know the basic law for ranking is just to rank the favorite program first. But sometime to know whether the program is seriously considering us is still very useful. Thank you very much!

I am participating in this year match. I was little confused that if I put advanced program + prelim position as my first choice and in case I dont get the prelim position, will i be moved to next choice on that list or will i be matched for that advanced position only? I am freaking out because of this as I dont want to go through the scramble for a prelim spot. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

dorsalhorn, You WILL BE MATCHED to just the Advanced program(if the advanced prog too ranks you high) and the nrmp wont even be looking at the rest of your choices if this happens......This is the irony....I too am in this delima and will be fighting till the deadline....Fingers crossed and good luck

I dont know why but Im having problems connecting to this website...anyway, glad to see you guys are doing well with your ranking. I mean, if you're having a dilemma about ranking it means you have a lot to rank, right?! Congrats! I wish I could say the same. Yup....you get matched with the advanced program first so if you forego a categorical in favor of an advanced and you dont match in a prelim, you could get screwed and have to scramble. U of chicago is not a categorical program. It has "tie-up's" with U of C's IM program (for AMGs and IMGs with US experience) and Weiss Memorial (for IMGS mostly) but those prelims are still not guaranteed. That is, there are only 2 slots in Weiss Memorial for Neuro in U of C. SO if 4 residents all rank only Weiss as their prelim, two will have to scramble to another prelim, comprende? I say go with your gut feel when it comes to ranking. There's just too many factors to consider and you'll drive yourself crazy if you take all of them into consideration. I don't have that many chances, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed too! Good luck to us all!

After all the thinking, I have decided to rank my advanced program down the table after categorical. I also need visa but, I am ready to take J1. Believe me, my advanced was previously my first choice. Is anyone playing the gamble of scramble? I dont have heart for that.

Just curious about the email or letters before ranking, has anyone heard any positive response from any program?

I did get a call from Dr Metzer, program director of university of Arkansas. I also got a letter from prelim program at Topeka affiliated with neurology program at university of Kansas, by dr abu salah. I have heard University of Nebraska send out calls too, but didn't get it. University of tennesse and north shore long island replied to email positively. No reply from wayne state and Oklahoma.

good luck to you all, i am done with my ranking. I have basically put H1s above J1s. with secondarily geographic preference among them.

Kingsofke and happyme, Thanks for sharing the info. I am just wondering whether these 'positive responses' were as a response to your 'Thank you letters' or are these letters 'stand alone' positive responses?? I did receive replies from Buffalo ( General letter that they are ranking me), UTenn, UNMC (Phone call from PD), Allegheny ( Approx. rank on their list info from coordinator). I Did NOT hear anything from NSLIJ, Wayne State. Good luck
