I have just recieved an interview call for PRELIM IM medcine. it is from Jersey City Medical Center (for those who would have posted that let us know the name). The email had ALL the dates for January available. Discussing with my friend we have come to conclusion that some programs have not planned for january interviews and will be opening up interviews for january. My friend had a email from a program in chicago which said they have him on hold for interviews that they will open for january.

interview invitation from University of Toledo neuro, couldnt take it as i am not available on that date and so am again out on the waiting list for the next dates. by the way on response to my query the program co-ordinator said that they have filled their prematches for neuro and what i have heard that its 2 of the 3 positions they have and so they will probably take 1 seat to the match. I dont know if its just me, but it didnt felt weird saying No to them after getting this little piece of information.

thanks chaitu for the info, my interview is for prelim. since i havent finalized thing with the last program so i will gladly take any offer from the Jersey city, cause i have close family friends there and i stayed with them for 4 months. ( which is like 70% of my stay in america). know the city inside out.

Kingsofke, Regarding Toledo, they have 3 positions: out of which 1 is given as prematch and they are on the verge of giving out another one to someone ( probably some current residents spouse, etc) and so this leaves only 1 for the match. I learnt this on the day of my interview.

hi chitu, docholloday and other friends, i have interviewed for neuro, IM and transitional year. i am confused about ranking. if i rank transitional year above IM and match only for transitional year, what would my future be. do you think i will stand a chance of getting into neuro or even better IM programs next year. please suggest. thanks..

If you get in a transitional year, you will have a better chance next year for Neuro, either starts from PGY2 if there will be a vacancy, which usually happens; or you start from PGY1 for neuro again. If you like IM better than neuro, then rank IM higher. How many ivs do you have totally? Happy New year to everyone!

thanks happyme, my first choice is neuro.if i rank transitional year above IM, and match only in transitional year and not in neuro, i guess i will still have a chance of getting neuro or at least IM next year. only thing i am worried about is getting transitional year this year and not getting anything next year. i hope thats not gonna be the end of the road. i have 5 neuro iv, 5 IM n 2 TE. thanks again and happy new year.

Hello all, Hope everybody are doing good. I have been travelling a lot attending IV's. So far the weather has been kind on the trail. Guys IV's are still comming. I just got 2 more invitations in the last 5 days. I guess these are mainly due to cancellations. I just wanted to ask if some one has attended UT, Memphis. Just wanted to ask which hotel was convenient, etc. Thanks and Good luck

Hi, whatsupdocmd, congratulation! Did you get prematch from a neurology program? I just wonder because as I know normally neurology programs won't offer prematch. Your information will help.

Hi, guys, I think many of us have finished most of the interview, and normally we sent thank-you letter after the interviews. I got replies only from less than half of the programs. Can we share this experience? This information will be helpful to each other. I mean if normally the Neurology program replies warmly to thanks letter if they are interested in you, then we should not rank the no-reply-to-thanks programs highly in the future. Your information will be highly appreciated. I am also receiving new interview invitations from neurology programs. But normally I won't take it from the programs that clearly refused my application at earlier time. I think that now they invite me is because others cancelled the interviews and they need to interview enough candidates. If they can refuse me early, it doesn't seem that they will rank me highly even after interview. Just my opinion for your consideration, maybe wrong.

Apologies man...dont check the site on weekends since there is no action on weekends.... had 3 prematch offers in Int. Medicine... so i accepted prematch in Int. Medicine in a univ. affiliated program in chicago, since i dont have the guts to stay for the match cos this yr from what i hear, the match is gonna be a killer .... but its tough to give up on my first love that is... neurology.....lol

ckevin, I agree with u, late interview calls normally are not promising as u were a safe option for them. I also cancelled one but attending another. It is toledo, they have just one position left, and the call came in late december...so there is every possibility that they will rank me very low........but still...i hope that i get lucky..

I am on the same boat with HighHopes. Some faculties reply to me, but most of the PD ignore. While they still read you email, one of the PD helped me get the prelim interview in their school... So, maybe they are just super busy, but they do pay attention to what you said.
