Hi, Doc,
I am a new comer, not familiar with the NRMP rules. I have a few neuro iv and IM iv, even though I really love neuro, but it looks very competitive this year... If someone accept a prematch in a prelim, does he have to withdraw from the match ? How can one take prematch in prelim- and then cont' match, does this vialate the rule?
I am happy for you Kingofke. At least you have a choice now. Most of us still in a state of deep anxiety.

if u get a prelim position in prematch, u r still eligible for the advanced positions .. i think u'll have to inform the categorical med positions that u have signed a prematch prelim .. but then i've never done it so dont know much about itsmiling face

happyme,
Thanks for the update. Thats what i thoight st vincent does not sponsor visa. Anyway good luck with your interviews. And regarding your question about prelim match withdrawl. Yes, there is a provision in the NRMP match game where in you can withdraw from prelim position rankings and only rank advanced position. This is perfectly possibly and very legal. At the same time you can withdraw from advanced programs and only play the NRMP game with just prelims. Anything is possible and yes it is very much allowed. Hope this helps.

Thanks , sunmatch, well explained.

guys and gals, I need some advice on my next iv at a IM program, I have checked for both preli- and IM when i applied for this program, however now i am more interested in preli-. Should I tell them that I want to be only considered for preli-? will this decrease my chances?
Kingofke, what was your experience at preli iv? or anyone else for that matter. This will be my first preli iv.

I had an interview at one place for categorical IM. At the start of the interview with PD, when asked about my future interest : I replied Neurology. He said isn't it require a prelim and i said yes it does and i would like that. but i wasnt sure at the time of applying. he said ok he will rank me for both categorical and prelim. then i insisted that i would much like a prelim and a prematch for that (hehe, that was probably pushing it a bit, anyways i felt like being honest and the chief resident in the tour told us to go ahead and ask for a prelim if you want) , He then asked me about my neuro interviews and then ask me if i have been given a positive response by any of them and are there any prematches in neuro (obviously not) and how will it effect my chances. In the end he said stay in touch and let me think about it and i will let you know (he wrote down everything on my evaluation paper.

I have actually contacted him after offer of a prematch from another program because i would prefer the above mentioned program but havent heard from him yet. That is my experience as it was and you could infer what you want.

Kingofke,

Thank you for sharing. Wish you the best for your prelim- prematch. I know some of the programs like to make their decisions on prematch offers at the end of Dec., so you may hear from them then, if not now.

keppra,
i am having an iv at ccf, florida in jan.

I have prilim and advanced neuro in GWU (George Washington University), how is the program, and has anybody had any IV experience.
the other question because i did not know about advance position application i have applied to cat and preliminary,,, does it affect my chance of getting the position, what should i say if they ask me why i have applied to both programs (prim and Cat). this fact to be added to that they have rejected my IM at first place than latter when i told them that i got Neuro, they accepted to give me IV in IM,,, but the program coordinator said to ask them if i still want the cat,,, is it wise to ask for cat,,, or just go for prelim, because the neuro called them to give me IV in IM.

your opinion appreciatedrolling eyesrolling eyesrolling eyesrolling eyesrolling eyesrolling eyes:rol leyes:rolling eyesrolling eyes
