i got the info from last year's interview thread smiling face .. as to the fact that there are more neuro programs this year, maybe its just that more are participating in the NRMP match this year ... neuro had its own match (SFMatch) and only joined NRMP last year

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Neurology residency program at
Indiana
University School of Medicine. Your application has been received from
ERAS
and reviewed. Unfortunately, you were not selected for the interview
process.
We wish you luck in your future career.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Cowherd
Residency Coordinator

Dear applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our neurology residency training
program.
After review of your ERAS application, we have decided not to offer an
interview. We have already recieved more than 300 applications for our
6
residency positions, so the selection process is extremely competitive
even
for highly qualified candidates.

Best wishes in your future career.

Its not what they are looking for but what they can take. These Univ programs are favorites of AMGs and if they have 3000 IMG applicants and 500 AMG applicants....obviously they can fill ALL their slots with AMGS....the IMG pile (yes GC/EAD included)...will be bumped into the shredder....thats the way it goes....unlike in St. Barnabas (Bronx) where you have 5 AMGs applying and 40,000 IMGs applying....you can figure the rest out....sad

True DOC.....very true.....but thats why Neurology is very competetive due to the less number of positions (average of 5-6 per program, the most I have seen is 8 and the least 2)...and not most but 99% Neuro programs are University based and require strong research background.....unfortunately when i interviewed at a good school last year I thought my PhD was a unique thing I brought to the table....lo and behold there were three AMGs who were MD PhDs interviewing with me the same DAY!!!!shaking head ......just tells you PhD means nothing....you need to have the one weapon others may not have .......lets say everyone along......C_O_N_T_A_C_T_S.....(sung to the tune of YMCA....grin)

i know this girl, she got her PhD this summer and now is back in med school, has some 20+ publications and will be applying to neuro ... and shes not the only one ... theres loads of AMGs like that ... i also met this girl during one of my observerships, she was PGY-2 neuro and knew as much about neuro exam as i did when i started clinical rotations in med school .. she got in cuz her in-laws had a very big neuro practice in that area and referred truck loads of patients to that hospital ... what would you have? one bad resident or lots of $$$
